I believe this is a very good approach! Althrough I doubt that I have the experience, technique and tools to draw a persons face, I am really looking foward to learn from the masters comments.
Things I am always wondering about in PhotoShop:
- which image-size to choose
- at which zoom-level to work
- brush or airbrush?
- with which brush size, opacity, hardness and spacing
- How to get smooth colored surfaces after blocking out large areas...
- How to get sharp edges...
- do I have any future without a wacom?

i think thats a beautiful and kindly offer, i just can't image how many posts your going to get. are you sure your up for it?
on the whole mentor thing, i think in theory its great but in practice i think it ends up being too exclusionary. in no way would i ever fault loki or anyone else for doing it (especially if the chose me ) since it is such a kind offer, but for the good of the group its seems tuts and the like are more fair. i'd rather see us all get a little better then see one or two lucky ones grow exponentially while the rest of us luckless bastards flounder .... i'll be posting here soon...
1) posted it a while back... i'd love to get your feedback... the post contains a detailed explination.

2) maybe an odd request but i'd be interested in hereing your take on the anatomy of these 3d models i did a while back. the woman's legs and hips are particualarly bad. i'll post 2 pictures here and provide a like more pictures (different angles) as well as lazy-suzan type animations....
ones a very generic man.

and the other is a generic female.

thanks

I'm up for it!!!!
I'm working on a self promo type thingy right now and I need as much feedback on this as I can gather. I'll by applying for many many jobs in hopes to land one, so My stuff has to SHINE!
Before I can graduate I have to have a showing of all my works, and part of that is develop a post card type promo image, this will also be a self promo image.
Be harsh and please offer suggestions.
here is the idea. Old meets new style, It's also a way of expressing that I do digital illustration. If I have to explain it, it's not working so here it is...
It's rough, I know. Just a sketch

This is an idea I had in response to AnthonyJ's question in the "experimenting" thread:
quote: Originally posted by Anthony J:
Francis, would you or any other artists on the forum be interested in mentoriship like Loki is supposedly doing. I'd really be interested in apprenticing under an artist such as yourself or someone else...
I don't really consider myself one of the big guns here, but I would like to be as helpful as I can. With that in mind, my idea here is to open this thread up to images, drawings, paintings, whatever from anyone on the forum. After say Friday night at 6pm, I'll try to give as much feedback as possible on each image, based on my own background, experience, education, whatever. It may not be the same type of feedback you'd get from other people here (I'd pretty much guarantee it, in fact), but I'll give it all I've got. Also, limiting the time window will keep this from exceeding my ability to keep up with it.
So, with your images, please include any ideas you have, what you're trying to accomplish, what you think are the strong points, weak points, etc. The more you tell me, the more I have to work with.
Boy, I hope this doesn't sound too pompous...

Francis,
Wonderful, idea! You have already helped me quite a bit as it is....and I thank you
for that So, if I can keep mooching off
you a little longer....
Here is my PS5.5 painting (avec Wacom).
I was not going for photo-realism (good thing, I would have failed) but just a
convincing girl kinda thang.
Here is the sketch I worked from....
And the reference.
I used the ref for color
and shading vice the replicating her appearance. I tried to pick colors off the ref but was only moderately successful in getting the color I wanted.
Of note, I think shading and color are
my weak points and I was trying to work on that here! Thanks again, I appreciate your
time.
