I believe that skinnning is indeed digi art! What do y'all think? Lately I have been playing more and more Unreal Tournament and decided that having a cool name is not enough. I would also like to create a skin for my digital online presence in UT. I have the artistic skill to create one I just haven't the foggiest Idea of how they need to be set up or how to convert it to that strangeass format that UT uses utx. or .utn???? I dono. all i know is that it don't say .bmp and im stumped. Do you have to DL some kind of ap or what? I know there are probably plenty of you here that do lots of skinning, (for UT or Quake or whatever) any help you could offer would be very much appreciated. Thanks again.
Happy Gaming!
Ian

Go to www.polycount.com
Its the perfect website for skinning & modeling characters for realtime games(fps mostly). They have utilities for conversion, UV Mapping, etc, and tons of tutorials. Plus hundreds of other Playermodels and skins available for you to browse and learn from.

I once did a 3D self portrait of my head... wanted to use it on a model, but I hate the freaking time it takes, especially for laying out a texture page and then drawing on it and pretending you know what your doing... it's much harder doing textures than it is actually drawing.... at least in my feeble experience |

Hey Ian, that is great you want to try your hand at making your own character in UT. Here are a couple of links that have tutorials, they might help you on your way
This page explains how to get your model skinned on to one bitmap: http://www.cschell.com/tutorials.html?skinmaxtut
Here is another link with great info on how to get the skin going and getting in UT: http://www.unreality.org/mooseskins/skintut.html
And of course check out Mr.Caudles webpage He works at Epic: http://home.hiwaay.net/~scaudle/Skins/UTSkins.htm
Like coconutmonkey said, Polycount is great source for ideas and all kinds of info.
If are just going to download a free model and then skin it - Polycount would be the place to get some neat models. People are always submitting their work for review and most let you download the model and skins for free Anyways, good luck to you!
