So I wuz a little reluctant to post this, but my girlfriend (who is more persistant than I)insisted. Being new to this forum, I'm a painter who's considering the digital medium. er... so don't rip this off, and uhh.. if anyones hiring, or knows of openings.... and tell me what you think and all that. hmmmm .... I wish I had the secret to this job thing. Maybe it is my country or something but in the last couple of months I've applied for about 50 graphic design/artist jobs without much luck. I've even offered to do stuff for free just to get some experience and the foot in the door without too much success. It might well be that I'm not good enough but I'm still going to keep hassling people.

My point, from my experience (which may not be representative of jack), but you have to aggressively go looking for work if you are an unknown and it isn't just going to happen. I'm probably sitting on 70 rejections at the moment but that hasn't disheartened me one bit. I'm going to keep trying as it is a field that I really want to get into, but more importantly, I back my ability.

My advice for getting a good job is to go to a good college.
As far as illustration - it's pretty safe to say that there are very, very few full-time illustration positions. You'll probably have to become a freelance artist.
For a more commercial route, if you're a good designer with good computer skills, web design etc. Come to New York City. You can't NOT get a job.
