Hi all!
I don't know if I'm stupid but I just today discovered just how lousy the 1280x1024 screen resolution is. All other resolutions has the ratio of 1.33 (if you divide x with y). However 1280x1024 has a ratio of 1.25. Therefor things drawn strictly in that resolution from sketch to finished piece will look like crap in ANY other rez... (Ie stretched in y axis) Why isn't there a big warning message next to the resolution slider in display properties?! It sure should be
Now I have to resample the work I've done in this rez.

dude, a couple of years back while working on some pc ui's i made that horrible discovery myself. its suck preverbal butt. no way around it but to ignore it in my opinion. that rez alone has caused me weeks of extra work. i bitched and moaned to my engineers and most of the hadn't even figured it out yet. just be glad you haven't had to do ui on the psx where the standard res is 512x240. that would be something like 80% in one direction and 1/2 in the other... really screws with any horizontal lines you create specially when your trying to anti-alias. |

Man, that sucks. 1600x1200 gives me a terrible headache looking at it for too long, and anything below 1280x1024 is way too big. |

Actually I think my monitor supports 1280x960 which is a 1.33 ratio. I'm going for that resolution from now on...

Heheh I'm running 3200x1200 on a #9 Revolution IV... Amazing clarity. Doesn't hurt my eyes...

To make 1280x1024 work properly, you need to resize the picture horizontally from your monitor's adjustments. Good way to get the correct proportions is to make a circular selection in Photoshop/whatever (press shift to get a perfect circle), about the size of a cd, then slap a cd to the screen and adjust the monitor's width until the cd and the circle are the same shape.

That's pretty funny-since I do mostly 3d it never bothered me, but now that I'm painting a lot that makes a big difference. Everything I've posted so far was done at 1280x1024. Buggery. I set it down to 1280x960 and all my drawings look very...tall.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
I just checked my settings and discovered I was using the bastard resolution! I'm going to switch it to 1280x960 now... here goes nothing
*prays for his old work*
heheheheh
EDIT: Phew! Everything looks okay. Not only that, everything seems to be crisper and more sharp on my monitor... woohoo! Most useful thread I've seen in weeks heehhehe.
