I am afraid I do not understan what's this new technique you said you used. What do you mean? Did you outline the black areas with the lasso and then spilled the bucket?

That's cool, Francis. Almost McFarlane-ish around the mouth area. If you've ever looked at Brian Stelfreeze's artwork I think this technique would work well to get that same look. These Batman/Wolverine/guy wearing a mask profiles are always fun to draw

April,

you just lasso your selection and then either modify it as a quickmask or embed the selection directly into the image as an alpha mask (channel) and modify it there. The selection is then represented as a greyscale image which you can modify with any of your painttools. The advantage of this is that you have more control over the selection. Create better edges (better anti aliasing than the lasso offers by itself), smooth transitions etc. etc. Once you've made the modifications you turn the alpha back into a selection and paint away.

I didn't think it was batman, but after
i read that part, it looked like him!

Francis, would you or any other artists on the forum be interested in mentoriship like
Loki is supposedly doing. Because I took a look at your portfolio site and it's just amazing stuff.

I think the mentor thing works through e-mail on a one on one basis with a chosen apprentice -artist...that would you would teach a few techniques or designs throughout e-mail and jpg images. I'd really be interested in apprenticing under an artist such as yourself or someone else...

if anyone's interested (or has the time!)
it probably wouldn't take more than 30 minutes a day or something, maybe even less, because the lessons would carry through the week or month, even using the forums to post messages and jpgs would be good i think.

anywayz just an idea

I wouldn't mind taking part in that. I'd just hate to exclude anyone, or limit it to one or two people. I guess that sort of defeats the purpose of the one-on-one interaction, but I think I have an idea that works well for a lazy individual such as myself. I will post a separate topic for this. Look for the one called "anti-mentor."
