The main focus right now is the eye, try making it look more reptilian, right now it's human looking. I wish I had my lizard reference book to show you some very good eyes, I'll see if I can dig up somewhere and scan in some cool gecko eyes. Or you can search the net for some. Look for gecko or frog eyes, they are great for stuff like this.
It's hard to see what the red "thing" is in the lower right hand corner. I know it's in progress, but it should still be clear what it is. IF you have to explain it to us,it's not really working
hmmm, wait a second..Is this a straight on view?
Ok...
here's a tip that will help ya out.
If you going to do a tight image like that, it's best to do a the image bigger, by bigger I mean show more of the head and then crop it in. If you don't, you will try to fit more information into a tighter space and it will cause things to become cramped and out of proportion. It's better to crop a larger image than have to add to a cropped image.
I like your colors, very nice. It's as if you have the scales glowing from within, that's a pretty neat idea. You may want to play off of that.

Wow!! The image is really coming along nicely since I saw your last post. Amazing
I must admit, the points that samdragon raised are not ones that sprang to mind for me when I first saw the image (but really good though). Although a work in progress, where the top of the head joins the background needs to be sharpened up alot as at the moment it is too blurry. Also, I don't know whether it is the look you are going for or haven't quite finished, but some of the scales seem to have very distinguishable painted strokes on them, which when compared with the smoothness of the eye, don't work properly.

See ya on da flip side

I really like the peice, but I would have to say that the eye does look a little odd? Maybe adding some thin skin to the bottom part would put it in place a little better, because it does look a little to human.
Oh and hello from Savannah. Im originally from Atlanta, but right now at college farther south. |

You're at SCAD?! Cool! How are you liking it oh close neighbor
Actually, since the last time you saw it, I did rough in the whole dragon head, and cropped the bit I had finished. This is actually a 3/4 view, this eye being the closest to you. More forehead is coming And the lower right-hand bit is his nose still.... It's just a little off cause it's the dark underlying sketch that you're seeing, and not the detailed work.
But you're right, I shouldn't have to explain my self I can see what you mean about the eye looking too human. I guess that became the problem with starting with the eye, and then doing the whole compositional sketch.
Please, if you have any reference pics of lizards, or the sort...I'll be looking for some as well samdragon. (Right now I'm only using a pic I have of Draco from Dragonheart. Even his eye is a bit more rounded....I am going for a more "concerned" look )
Any other suggestions would be great.
Regards,
Patrick |
