Moonlord, I think you are as naive when adopting the first attittude as when later saying "its also good b/c i dont think this will happen again, at least in our country". You reckon that part of your first argument is what you were "taught", still you refute it with another prejudice (that it will not happen again). As Frost said, fascism is not rare at all nowadays, in every single place of the world. In some places it is just a matter of a neighbourhood or a workplace, some others generalized through a city, province, state... Maybe it is not as radical as it was in WWII or previous history events, but it is as spread as before. That is something that I think is innate to the human race, and as the ying-yang thingy it is just a matter of balance.
I live in Spain and I do not know how much of the vascs situation crosses our borders, but believe me here we are quite used since years ago to coexisting with daily proofs of fascism everyday from either sides.
It will not happen again? Do not get stuck in the past but do not take future for granted either. Your are not so far away from Yugoslavia (sp?). Ask anyone from those regions if they saw themselves where they are now 20 years ago. And we study history at school in centuries time spans.
Anyway, we eat this junk daily and I do not come here for desserts. Wasn't this a Digital Art Forum?

First of all, I think I'll have to represent myself. my name is Dotan, I'm from Israel and I'm a jew.
I think some of you wiil find this relevant to the matter...
In Israel there is a constant dialog with the issue of the "holocaust", the shoa. It reflects in each and every aspect of life: law, politics, entertaiment, and yes- art.
Sculpting and drawing in this subject is a common thing, suprising?
The Bible is the most popular subject for drawings. Second to it is WW2. The subjects that we dare not talk about are those we find ourself dealing through our art. It is a natural thing.
No, i don't think someone who paints natzis as gods should be recomended (I have seen the pic... don't bother to currect me) but i do believe everyone should try and deal with the subject their own way.
Then, off course, there is the matter of art for art which is legitimate. If this is the case, i'm sure you could have chosen a less irritating subject...
And now, for something completly differant...
I am constantly amazed of your work, fred. i bow infront of youre work. truely amazing.
(there, after eight monthes of lurking i've finally said it!).
p.s
I was writing this in about 4 a.m, the screen is kinda blurry (i hope it's the hour), so sorry about the foul language...

Ok ok ok ok ok ok I won't bring up the subject, EVER again All I wanted was to practice drawing the human figure in action, but instead of having people comment on what I drew, I raised a big political, philosophical, social debate. ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

What I meant is that they led many interesting experiments (besides turning people to soap if that's what's crossing your mind). They were the first to develop underwater breathing devices, the first rockets, experimented with personal air propulsion systems, etc., and that was way back. As they took over countries, they would assign the leading researchers of that country to their cause... that is what I meant.
Anyway, humanity will always have idiots trying to take over the world and impose their views and ways of life over others. I'm just saying that no matter how disgustingly sick and wrong it was, no matter how many people died or suffered, it did push the evolution of mankind, and a big lesson was learned (we hope). I may come across as an insensible bastard, but that's just how I see it. I don't hope for war, and I definitely hate war, and I don't like death either. But that's just how it goes sometimes. My view is as follows: Live for now, breathe the air, enjoy your freedom, and stop complaining about how some group of morons killed x number of "your" people in the past... it's been going on for thousands upon thousands of years, it goes back to cavemen tribal conflicts... I for one don't want to deal with it. Ignorant, maybe, but it feels nice not to hate upon taught prejudice. =)
I'm no longer responding to this thread as I see it offends many people rather deeply (which is quite sad). I really wish that those people deal with these inner issues and live peaceful lives instead of churning back bad memories. If I offended anyone with my views, then I deeply apologize, because I really did not mean to hurt anyone with them.
sad,
frost. |
