Looks good as always-she definately looks better with clothes. You have some really funky background colors though! I can't tell if it's mountains, sand dunes, mountainous sand dunes, or what. :] Nice job, as if you didn't know that.

Damn Veb, I really love all your stuff. Clothes, no clothes, I don't care. It's great artwork.
The only thing that bugs me though is her sword. Damn thats a thick blade, well, it is a women I suppose, and she is most likely substantially smaller than the average 'barbarian'.
Nevermind.

Are you just trying to depress us or what? Geez... (er... just in case, that's supposed to be a compliment
Ok, just a pair of comments. 1st one: grrrreat, 2nd one(s):
what's up with the backlight on the chick's left leg (hers). Sure the mountain must be lessening the intensity comparing to his, but the light is comming from the sky, so I think she should still be receiving a bit.
Same for his axe I guess.
her shadows, I do not think they are consistent through all her body. His values are quite contrasted thoughout all his body, but her face, for instance is in very dark shadows, while her left arm, leg and breast will cast almost none.
I find her left hand is somewhat weird, maybe too short.
As you see i paid more attention to the chick than to the buddy. Do not ask me why, no clue

nice as usual. hhmmm... for some reason i assumed it was a snowscene. i'm probably going to get chastised for this, but i kinda like the nekid version : )
only real critiques are that the guys right hand seems a bit odd, (his middle two finger seem highly detail were as the outer two seem vague) and the woman's left hand could us a little more hand.
keep it up.

I really enjoy your style man, it all seems very lifelike and the figures definatly all have mass.
ipersonally like the blue sky... but i think it is a bit too saturated. If those are sand dunes, i would suggest a smoother edge on the top, but if they are mountains, what about some darker hues and maybe moss or dirt or something? just a thought.
i am curious of what program you use. Is this all Photoshop? Or do you use Painter as well? just curious.

OH yeah...
Something that jumped right out is the atmospheric perspective, there is none really.
the mountians in the back seem too close and they offset the scale of the figures, as if they are giants. You may want to darken or add some atmospheric perspective to those moutian tops so they seem more in the distance.
Other than, I love it |

Excellent work! I really love it. And just for the record I liked the nekkid girl better. Now before you go, hey, that pervert. Allow me to explain. I just liked the idea of a 'warrior' (woman/man) being naked with just her weapon. To me it implies a full committment to your 'job'. Afterall, you can't even be bothered with clothes, BUT you are carrying your WEAPON.
Just saying 'coz people seem to give you grief over the nekkidness... Either way your call and doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the piece!

Yeah, I'm a little dissappointed that you put clothes on her. I thought the picture looked more unique before. |

its kinda funny everytime vebjorn posts his pics everybody all over him with "why doesn't she have any clothes" and "if shes got full armor up top whys she got a bare bottom." now he appeases us and were all like "weres the nakkid chick?" oh how the wind does blow.
both are great, nakkid and clothed. ones more reasonable and ones more fun. its nice to see you mix it up, shows more range. |

This is much better than the b&w version by far. I really like your style, it brings back looking at Boris and Frazetta work. The only comment I have is with the woman's skirt, it doesn't seem to fit right, maybe because she was naked to begin with. Still awesome though.

Wow, excellent work Veb. My only crit is, I dont like the sky.. it just seems so.. happy in contrast to the dark characters.. you go Bob Ross on us for a few moments or something? J/k. I to thought it was a snow scene at first. Also, to me, the skirt looks fine, but its the top on that woman that bothers me somehow.. and I'm not sure why. It doesnt seem to be wrapping around her much, so there isnt much way it can be on staying on her.

No crit, just wanted to point out something that might help someone..
Notice how Veb is using warm colors to make the shadows stand out, see the red in the cape and in the shadows of the mans chest? It adds a vibrant feel to it. I just wanted to point that out as a good way to work with shadows by using complimentary colors or like tones (which ever fits for the color scheme) I noticed alot of the beginning people tend to use solid black as a shadow.( I know I did) By adding warm colors to the shadow areas of the mail figure he stands out more againts that blue sky. So, try to stay away from pure black, there are sometimes when it's needed, but not all the time. If you'll look at the close up of the womans face, you'll see another example of this technique. See how the shadows appear darker by using lighter variations of the same tone around the face? Take it into photoshop and sample it. I'm sure when this image is finished and polished up it will be more obvious what I'm talking about. Maybe Veb will comment on this, and also why he chose red for the constrasty shadows. I've been doing alot of research on F.F. and I can see what Veb is doing here, it's alot like the illusion of detail, there appears to be detail there, but there realy isn't any, just good use of color
I'm learning alot by looking at vebs artwork, and by seeing his stuff in progress as he posts it here is an even bigger help. I'm doing all kinds of experimental stuff with color now. Now if we could only get Fred to post is painting stuff for us to learn from..... |

Well, avtually I like the way the womens legs are shadowed, as for the red tinted shadows of the hero's cape...it feels strange.
Obviously, the old rule "cool light, warm shadows--warm light, cool shadows" still counts, cool colours are more blueish, warm colours more yellowish.
A little more blue, green or so added to the shadow colour of the man would maybe help.
But that is techtalk
The image is strong, as usually.
Bye,
Emmanuel

I like what you've done so far Vebjorn. I have to disagree with Aquamire concerning the sky. I think that the way it looks now compliments the baron landscape the characters are set amoungst.

I`ve got two versions of this..with and without the "skirt" on the kitten. Now for shadows..well, they are reddish because of the backgorund, the ground(maybe a tad more yellow). I don`t always follow the rules, sometimes I put a color there just because I felt it improved the picture someway.
Thanx for the inputs,(good point Samdragon) as usual I will take them into account when revising it abit,-)

don't have any constructive critiscm
just want to mention that I thought
it was a snow-landscape
I agree with phreaknasty
but in the hope you are not totaly bored of this
I liked the ''no clothes''
version better
for the reason it's something original
which makes the pic for me very interesting
maybe you did it just for fun maybe not
it doesn't matter
because at least everybody interpret it individually
oh forgot that: awesome pic

Hi Veb!
Looks cool. I like the colours.
(fargene minner meg om en av Ole Petters gamle amiga 500 bilder)
The only crit i have is the pose of the girl. Seems a little bit out of balance.
Her hand is blurred and looks weird too.
Imagine her small hand holding that big sword.
Besides from that it's cool.

Thanks micke..the hand and balance will be fixed.
As for the skirt issue..If it turns into a conan cover, I`ll let the editor decide. If not..I`ll have you vote...
