it's a pity the in game art probably won't have that painterly luster to it. if only it was as beautiful as that first image. we can dream though, can't we? |

Anthony: just renders the basic shapes in a 3d program. it just gets your perspective and lighting correct. |

Hmm.. I was able to ask that 3d ref. point... but it turned out without my question. It helps you paint because you can see shadows and shades... also forms. |

Ah, those are neat, neat, and more neat! I like some of the people you draw more than others, but your tech-fu is unbeatable.

Thanks for the replies. It didn't occur to me when I posted these, but I should add that I painted over a 3D flat shaded screen cap for that first image. Please don't stone me.

What does that mean exactly?
Does it mean it was easier to do
or are you still as badass as the top image indicates?

Francis: Nah, it's cool. Spooge uses helpers too at times. It's something I never thought of doing. If it helps get the job done I guess. =) |

Hey Francis.
I was just wondering what sort of timeframe you get to do things like this.
they look really good.

Yes, the 3D underlay saves a lot of time in setting up the drawing, making sure that everything important shows up in the composition.
Sedone, yup my figure drawing is not as developed as I would like it to be. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) there is almost no character design stuff in Exile, except for what Ron has come up with (which I wish I could post here, it's really cool stuff).
Liquid, I can't wait either. Been working on this for over a year!
Rinaldo, these need to be done pretty quick. The middle sketch of the light was done in maybe an hour or so, the bottom sketch of the whirlpool took maybe two hours. The painting of the big round doorway took a few hours, not exactly sure how long - I kind of spent more time on that one, trying to get colors, values, lighting and textures to a very finished level. It's actually only about halfway done as far as I'm concerned, but I had to stop at that point and move on to other things.
