I didn't go there, but I have a good friend there-he seems to consider it as a chance to practise for 4 years on his own, with school projects getting in the way sometimes. You'll get to practise a lot, but you have to keep away from the idiots and lazy people that are filling art colleges. Just stick to the art work and you could be awesome in 4 years.

My friend went there for 1 semester last year before leaving. He said they didnt teach much, and the teachers werent very good. He said he was actually better then him, he wasnt being cocky either, the teachers would actually 'Ooh' and 'Aah' and say he's better then them. Then, again my friends really good, so I dunno could be that. He pretty much gave it the thumbs down.

I get the impression that the best art school is the one Spoogey went to and Fred almost went to(name escapes me for the moment). It's a 2 year right? For technical drawing, there's a school in Detroit that is quite good(I have another friend there doing automotive design). I don't think the teachers at Ring-a-ling-a-ding are that great, and the kids sound lazy-competition is the best way to make yourself better. Just look how successful this forum is!

I live in FL and Ringlin is my 3rd choice as far as art school only for the simple fact that its in FL. As far as other schools, I like Savannah college of art and design (www.scad.edu) and Art International Institute (which has a campus in Ft. Lauderdale, FL).
Not sure how good AII is, but I've heard nothing but good things bout Savannah, including both the campus and the city. |

I went to Ringling as did three of our most recent hires. Ringling is the only school we recruit from because of the strong illustration department and the decent animation department. I will say that after going to art school I realized that it is only as good as my study habits were. If you draw all the time and paint from life and learn the computer packages with total fervor than any school is a good one. Find teachers with the information you want.

I didn't go there, but I the Disney Feature Animation studio in Orlando does some recruiting there, if you happen to be into animation. |
