I just drew some more face pictures (that's all I draw lately), and I would like to get some constructive criticism so that I may improve my abilities. I did the first one rather quickly, but I spent more time on the second one and think that it's actually fairly good. I plan to go back and redo everything under her neck though as I just did that area quickly so that she wouldn't be a floating head.

It may look pretty, but I would take the brush off "wet edges"
You're off to a fairly good start, I would just use some different colors on them faces: a richer color than cream, and less contrasty than deep purple. |

Interesting Style. It is a little difficult to comment on as while there is a suggestion of turning off the wet edges effect, you could make your own unique style if you refined it a little (although I'm not 100% sure how you would do it).
With the top picture, the characters eyes look different. One has the pupil in the eyelid itself while the left one has it more on top. Hopefully that makes sense but getting eyes right can really shift the emphasis of an image.

Okay, I suppose I should turn off wet edges or at least attempt to find the good points of using it and eliminate its negatives. These are the only two pictures I've done with wet edges. I just wanted to differentiate more from the air brush as I was getting sick of that tool. I'm not quite certain what you mean about the eyes, but they are probably wrong. I was mainly just trying to experiment with the style (also why I tried wet edges) rather than trying to perfect the anatomy. As for the colors, I'll focus more on color next picture as I want to draw some more faces but use color more effectively. In an upcoming one, I plan to make an early winter sunrise scene (blue/purple 45 degree light from the front on one side and red/orange as a backlight on the other side) which will allow me to practice my color use. |
