Well I didn't participate in the thread, but I still learnt something thanks to Ron (and I also got an enthusiasm boost too) :-P
Thanks Ron!

Poxen: I bought my books off of books.com (barnes and noble). They're the Walter Foster reprints and they aren't too shabby for $8 USD a piece. Walter Foster only republished two I believe. Drawing the Head (which is a reprint of Heads/2, I'm not sure if it's abridged, but it probably is, and then Figures in Action.) Drawing the Head focuses on the dimensions of the head, and the differences between the construction of male and female heads. It goes a little bit into the planes of the head and bone structure. Figures in Action goes over proportions of the male and female body, and tips for adding expression and dynacity (sp?) to your drawings by adding motion and capturing the pose at it's peak. (which can sort of apply here. you're pose should be at the peak of action, otherwise it will "deflate" the drawing. ie, golfer at the peak of his swing, basketball player at the height of his jump.) as Fred said though, keep in mind that the point of view that the pose is viewed from probably adds more dynacity (sp again? man, I must like this word, if it exists.) to the piece. anyway, if you surf around the auction sites you might find something. There's also a birage of new sites that let the buyer post what they want and their offerings and then have the sellers come to them. I forgot the sites, but they shouldn't be too hard to come across. Don't forget to check those good ol' flea markets too! Remember, one person's trash is another's... blah blah. I'm sure you've all heard that a million times. Anyway, hope this helps! |
