I'd just like to thank everyone for the help, especially Craig and Ron for their beautiful tutorials-tips-advice (not necessarily given for my pictures, but still useful and used *grin*), but also everyone else who helped and gave advice too...
I only started drawing as a hobby this summer, so I still pretty much suck. However, I have improved a LOT over the summer, and I owe that to you guys (and to a lot of practice, I guess, and even to Leonardo Da Vinci for drawing all this stuff just so I could make pathetic helpless attempts at reproducing it :-P). When I say a lot, I mean on my scale. But judge for yourself:
At the beginning of the summer I produced this piece:
Took me 3 to 4 hours, and I when I finished it I thought it was great... sheesh, must've been blind that day...
Just now, in something between half an hour and 45 minutes, I sketched (on the wacom) and painted this quickly:
I know it isn't good, by the standards of most of the people here, I know the ear isn't even drawn, the eyes are not done, there are probably some gross mistakes here and there, but by my standards it's an immense improvement (more or less in proportion thanks to Fred's head drawing tut, shadows sort of better placed thanks to "paint along with fred", painting much more quickly done thanks to craig's multiple advices to everyone and his great tut on 3dpalette, etc)...
Basically, if you had shown me the latter painting at the beginning of the summer I would just have stared at it open-mouthed in admiration - and now I just drew it :-)
...and I think it's a direct result of all that knowledge that pours out of this place every day.
Thanks guys! :-)
Oh, and of course any advice on how to improve the new pic - or at least avoid whatever mistakes I made - is welcome :-P
