Lobo rules!
I really love Simon Bieslys style.
Spawn is very cool too and a collect every issue. Greg Capullo creates the most stunning images.

I can only take so much of the same characters before getting bored with them. I tend to prefer things like Heavy Metal, with irregular series and shorts.

Hmmmm, I like the phantom comics, such fine realistic ink drawings, not too stylised either.

i'm not really into comics anymore (too expensive) but when i was, i liked Grendel, Cerebus, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Shade, the Changing Man. Grendel was definitely my fave. i've never been into super-heroes, so i didn't collect much marvel/image stuff. most of my comics were dark horse or from smaller labels. |

I also don't read much comics. But ones I've liked in the past were:
Drew Hayes, Poison Elves (early issues)
GROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! the wanderer
Eastman and Laird's TMNT (waaaay back when, before they went commercial and shit)
X-MEN (unfortunately, just too much damn story to catch up on, which turned me away)
About a year ago I bought some copies of Danger Girl, Crimson, and one friggin issue of Battle Chasers (no one would sell me any more), just to check out what the big whooplah was about. The artwork was exceptional, but not much else interested me. I also think Joe Mad's style of drawing women are just plain goofylookin, Humberto Ramos' style sucks, because he tries to draw "western anime" faces and fails horribly at it, spitting out pseudo-psycho-Disney lookin things. JC's artwork is very refined, but not my taste. His stuff reminds me of highly evolved "Betty and Veronica" artwork.

Cyphus: you mentioned a love of Neil Gaimian and the Sandman series, you know hes got 2 new books out atm?
One is of the sandman in oriental style with nice oriental art.
Bigger news tho...
Good Omens by Gaimian and Pratchett is being made into a film with terry gilliam directing!!!
Picture that!
Btw, while on subject of comics, anyone ever read the FoolKiller, written by Steve Gerber I think..?

My short list of comic book influence:
Gaiman's Sandman
Herg's Tintin
Enki Bilal's stuff
Judge Dredd
Christin/Mzires' Valerian & Laureline
Milo Manara's stuff
Pratt's Corto Maltese
Hewlett/Martin's Tank Girl
Dirty Pair
Moebius(!)
Jeff Smith's Bone
Nemesis The Warlock
Yoko Tsuno
Bisley/Mills' Sline
Andr Franquin's comics (Spirou, Marsupilami etc.), they're a real blast
Talbot's Luther Arkwright
Druuna
And probably a whole lot more, I admit to reading Tex Willer, Lucky Luke, Asterix&Obelix, Marvel Comics (quite a lot), Witchblade, Elfquest, Natascha, Calvin and Hobbes and many others.
I just wanted to list some comics worth reading that don't fall in the Marvel/DC/Image/whatever canon. Diversity is good.
European Comics on the Web (lots of links and info)

My defenite favourites have to be Judgment on Gotham and the Slaine books illustrated by Simon Bisley, i relly digs his art, i guess that the translated version (in swdish) of Judgement on gotham is pretty silly but its primary the artwork im after.
Else, why not Donald Duck! |

Top of the list for me must certainly be Masamune Shirow for his AppleSeed and Ghost in the Shell. Watching his style grow and mature over the course of those two books was amazing.
Next comes (can't remember author's name, but he's a very cool guy, did that big-name movie too) Nausicaa; incredible story with illustration that still make me shiver when i look into them.
Jeff Smith's "Bone" was a great, great thing.
And on the Meta-level, Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics" is a must-read for anyone who looks at any sort of art at all
I want to throw in BeanWorld, by Larry Marder. Crazy fun stuff |

Favorite Mini-Series- Kingdom Come
Favorite Story Arc- Gen 13 #3,4,5 (ongoing series)
Favorite Artists- Jeff Campbell for his fun fluid style, and Mike Turner for his crazy movie like visuals, nice story telling by the both of them also. Travis Charest has a really great style, Joe Mad, Ale Garza, and many many others. For inkers Garner, Townsend, Williams, Miki. Colorists, deefintely Liquid!, Joe Chiodo (he still color?) and Steve Firchow.
Books I Pick up on a regular basis are Darkness, Fathom, Witchblade, Eve, I stopped getting Gen13 after the kids hideout somehow went into space and then Campbell left, The CrossGen books (I love them because of the fantasy elements), DangerGirl I pick up every year or so when it comes out, and pretty much anything else thats new, not much DC or Marvel. If anyone has any suggestions on Marvel/DC books I should pick up, let me know.
Hmm... theres a little more there then just my fav book, Im sure noone will mind tho
I also hafta pick up the Batman A Long Halloween hardcover, I heard it was incredible.

This is probably a more random Musings question but I'll bite:
Stray Toasters by Bill Seinkevicz (not sure on the spelling of his name). is really pretty.
Dark Knight's always a good fallback too.
But overall the New Mutants. |

There r 3 contending the pole position in my book, Ross' marvels ,weapon 0 (that has the best mecha design i'v ever seen from the states) and Miura's berserk.
If making a choice was a matter of life or death i think i'd choose berserk (i don't know if it's printed in the states but if it isn't u r all loosing the best fantasy/darkgothic story of the millenium
I can't believe nobody mentioned ross anyway, /me slaps everybody's memory ! |

Man, this post is so old I had a different name when it started. Alex Ross has some pretty stuff, but having to chose a favorite then his stuff is far from the top of my list.
By the way, stuff that I've picked up lately and though was actually good:
The Sentry
Inhuman mini-series (Jae Lee as the artist)
Daredevil (Quesada and David Mack story arc) David Mack is a pretty damn good writer. His writing style fits Quesada's art perfectly.
Marvel Boy
All CrossGen books
I'm not into DC much. Their storys seem plain and done before. Don't care much for Image. Books are just about the art and they all look the same to me. (don't get me wrong.. I'd work for them.. hint hint.. Chris) I buy a large amount of comics, but the ones I listed are the ones I look forward too.

Spawn - IMHO GC surpassed MF long ago.
JTHM, and Squee, which was not quite up to par. I do like some of the detailed Photoshop fluff - Witchblade, etc.
Frank Miller is a genius.
As is Dave McKean - Sandman covers, Signal to Noise, Arkham Asylum, Violent Cases, Mr. Punch etc... Sandman has excelent writing.
Akira! Whee!

Battle Angel Alita - Yukito Kishiro
300 - Frank Miller
Rebel Sword - Yoshikazu Yasuhiko
Ashen Victor - Yukito Kishiro
With the exception of "300", I've never seen a colored comic that I liked.

My favorite is "the Keepers of the Maser" by Massimiliano Frezzato. He is a true master. This man's work is the most awe inspiring stuff I have EVER seen. |

As if it's possible to have "one" favorite.
TinTin
Asterix & Obelix
Bone
Battle Chasers
Crimson
Kabuki (Scarab as well)
Blade of the Imortal
Starwars the Manga (only the first one)
Ghost in the Shell
Twilight (old(ish) Sci-Fi book Written by Howard Chaykin drawn by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez)
Wildcats (if it has at least a page of done by Charest, if otherwise I consider it not worth the paper it's printed on )
Steampunk
The Witching Hour
The recent Daredevil stuff (The David Mack and Kevin Smith runs)
The Phantom.
A few old Sci-Fi books that I can't remember the names of.
