Hey Liquid!, are you the same Liquid! comic colorist? If so i must say i admire your work.
if this is the same liquid!, do you have any of your art online anywhere? Or would you offer any tutorials or tips on coloring? I have no idea how you get some of the coloring you do (witchblade 40) and i was wondering if you would be up to offer some secrets
thanks

Thanks for the kind words. Someone already asked for a tutorial, those take usually tons of tim, however there's a chance that we might be able to do one in wizard.
However, there isn't anything we do that isn't described on this board. As a matter of fact, I think you'll learn tons more being here, because there is such a wide variety of incredible talent here. Just hit the search button and it should answer most questions you might have.
Thanks again for the kind words.
Best,
Chris

Hey Chris. I dunno if you read that all of that thread "Comic colouring" But I had an explenation of how I was going about the colouring. Would you possibly be able to give me a few pointers. Is that approach close to what you do or am I totaly off the mark. Anything that strikes you as totaly stupid or whatever. Link is here if you can't find it

Just I was going to do a tut a while ago but I feel totaly stupid doing one when one of the best colourists in comics is on the board.
If you have a spare minute to comment it would be great.
Cheers

Rinaldo: I was checking the forum for other tutorials besides your own. I couldn't find anything that I feel is closer or more accurate than the one you did. Doing flats and putting lineart in layers is the is the way its done. As far as coloring goes, I don't really have a set way of doing things. I generally do whatever I think will get me the effect I'm after. I think that may become more apparent when you see me post more stuff in the future. At least I hope so...
PS:
quote: RINALDO WROTE: "EVE was good.....ish. The story concept is ok but the execution is a letdown. The writing is all "mom an' dad, I love you all". Full of stuff that people would't say. They don't have a grasp of speach patterns or characterisation. And while the stories are good ideas, they are totaly ripped. I mean I have seen them a hundred times beofore. Some guy was saying over at the top cow MB that they ripped soul saga off from some book, names and all. I mean I don't really care if i't true or not, but ....yuno.
"
EVE was supposed to be really easily accessible and 'fun' to read. Afterall, we were fully aware of our own limitations.
I think we learned a ton from doing it and think it will show in our future endeavors.
SoulSaga is not a rip of another book as far as I know. And figuring that I have a fairly large say in the matter, I think I would know.
Then again, people kept telling me that E.V.E was a straight rip of Evangelion (I still haven't seen it to this day)...

Chris-
Yeah I wrote that a while ago when I had just read the first few isues. I got so hyped up about those books. When I saw the soul saga add in previews I was jittery for the rest of the day. the Art looked soooooo good. The same with eve. But I felt that the stories weren't up the the same quality as the art. I realise that most comic book stories are pretty shallow. Your books are way better than most but I just thought they'd be a lot better than they were in terms of plot. as you say tho I think the latter writing has gotten better.
Heh I've come across as a bit of a harsh critic on your work. Bashing your colurs and your writing. I really don't want to come across this way. As I mentiond In the Comic colouring thread at the bottom, Liquid are my fav colourists.
I wouldn't call eve a rip of evangelion. The base concepts of eve are reacuring sci-fi themes that's all. the same goes for SS.
Just as you said to someone about looking at paintings for colour instead of comics. Look at shakespear for writing.
(Heh Actuialy all of his stories were recycled, it was the execution that exelled).

This is kinda trippy. When I was into comics (before they got too expensive and the Australian 'dollar' [or should I say Payso] dropped heaps) I really liked the liquid style. Now there is someone here from liquid .... aahhhh, gotta love the internet.

i think colourists meed to pay more attention to the line art hehe i always find mistakes like on panel a girl has brown hair then OOPS magic dye job, its brown now...
ok so im picky, but man... hehe if your gonna do it, gotta do it right... and since that christian guy is gonna read this i get to point out one to him hee hee dont hate me
E.V.E #6 our last edition of the pale cleavage hero.. or.. murderer? i dunno.. WHATEVER
PAGE 10 the spiffy crash jumping scene, the most detailed, close version of da cutie crash, my right, his left, eye they coloured the wrong part. yep woo lazy eye crash.
ok maybe im really just.. dumb... hehe im comic obsessed... everything must be PERFECT!'
Again, why you should hire me hee hee
oh and bad call on the beveled blood when Pops gets squished, the best part in my opinion tho i woulda added a "pop" sound affect, or a squish but kr-rack! is good too
anyways... its 3 am... and im mad cause the ink on the cover came off my hands and now its pretty much worth nothing but i still love de art and perdy colours....
yeah, shut up lisa, comics are for boys

I agree with Rinaldo on the writing. Maybe I'm just getting too old for comics.. hehe. I bought EVE 5 and 6 at the same time after never reading anything about it. Had I just bought 5 I would probably have not picked up issue 6. Frankly it felt weird reading it. The artwork seemed too mature for the writing. No offense Chris, I understand you are probably aiming for a younger market. However, the writing is way too "kiddie" for a comic where someone has there head crushed. But then again, I'm not in the business yet, so this is just my fanboy opinion. |
