wow.. tone down the nose and the ears and the wart or whatever on the nose and that looks kinda like a girl i dated a few yearsago... While its true that there are many characteristics common both to males and females, the more subtle distinguishing features cannot really be conveyed in this simple of a line drawing.
The areas that MOST remind me of a girl are the laaarge, pointy lips that look like they were taken off some fashion model with dark lipstick. Also the high, round cheek bones and even the chin give the face a more feminine look.
Nice tho

What is up with all of this psychology babble? He asked why people think it looks like a female. I answered him. There isn't any stereotyping going on here. If women looked like men.. then well.. ughh.. I rather not think about it. Point is there are differences that are common. Scientifically the eyes are probably the same size.. sure.. maybe. However, if you just observe features from real life, you will notice the differences. |

Me again.. I made some slight changes to your pic. Hope you don't mind. Now it kinda looks like a young boy. If you want it to look like a man then your going to have to do more to it.

Hey thanks for all of the replies. Chapel your paint over is much appreciated. I can see where i was mixing the two.. as far as the psychology babble, it's important. once i have a better hold of the basic drawing skills you can really add a lot to a pic if you've got the phyc stuff going on.

Hey, this is a quick sketch of a character for an animation im working on. It was meant to be a cute, chubby, early teen male. Everyone that looks at it says, "She's cute" or something to that effect. So maybe you guys could help point out what features are making it read female and how to change it without losing the feel of a cute little guy wearing a shrimp hat.
Thanks,
ZiG |

everything about this character is rounds and curves. just make some of them angular. males eyebrows are also generally closer to the eye then females, maybe unround the eye a bit, the cheek bone could maybe use a little less curve. the lips are also very feminine.

The eyes and the lips. Females have larger eyes than males. Male eyes tend to be more narrow. The lips need to be more "blocky" to be male lips. |

Your picture is not inately feminine... nor does it look female to me... while some of the previous coments are generaly true, males and females share many facial characteristics that we often steriotype as being destinctive of only one sex.
What are you trying to convey in this pic? Will chaning the features to meet gender steriotypes be sympathetic to that vision?
Puting phylosify behind... cover different zones of your picture and get an impression from each... you may find, as I did, that the mouth might worant some attention. I don't think that the basic geomitry should be changed, but by altering line waight, the slight lipstick look could be obviscated, if not done away with entirely.
I have seen all thies features on prity young boys... it realy is all relitive to what you want.

There is no biological differance in the male/female eye size. However, working outdoors with long exposure to bright light causes one to squint, and over years can lead in eather gender the Clint Eastwood look.
As for the mouth observation, I think it might be best to say that we LIKE to see certain features on a particular gender... which does not translate to a bilogical predeliction, sinc we who are ugly manage to bread as readly as the buetifull folk. That said, females generaly tend to have finer features, generaly.
