Hey, heres what i just finished, its made in photoshop and i used mostly the hard brushes which makes it look a little rougher, i belive it looks more alive that way, rather than just using the airbrush, please give me crits!

i have a serious question for anybody (There's no malice or anger involved, I'm honestly curious): Why is minimal clothing part of this style? Don't barbarians and their women know how to wear clothes? Almost every picture with a Barbarian contains this theme....Where and why did it begin? And why is it so popular (reasons for personal appeal)

P.S. With your picture, though the head is a little small, I really like how you made it a metal mask instead of a cliche helmet.

in certain cultures they would fight completely naked to scare their enemies. im pretty sure the scotish did this, i think i even read somewhere the women would join the men in battle...and fight naked.

in norse mythology the beserker's a group that worshiped odin, would gain odins power in battle (beserkergang.) they fought naked, and except for wooden shields the only weapon they used were their teeth...

Ph34r the chrome codpiece skinless ones!!

heh. Good form. personally I'd soften the muscle definition some, so that it looks like there's something over them. but if it's a style thing don't worry

Thanx u all!

Well i guess im going to go over the picture one more time to fix those bugs in it, i also discovered that his arm looks a bit too twisted (if you look at the hand and compares it with the angle of his elbow.

And regarding that nudity issue, when i made the pic a had a gladiator in my mind (like the ones in old rome) Fighting against slaves and other "as good as dead" people.
They didnt had very much clothes, i guess the background gives another impression, maybe i should try to make some cind of colloseum design behind him?

Bah, everyone knows barbarians should be drawn naked because of Conan the Barbarian...

*grin* j/k :-P

About the drawing, I agree the arm seems a bit strange. Also I thought the head was a bit too small... hmmm...
