40k kicks ass!
This Warhammer stuff you've been doing recently is well worthy of White Dwarf!
The colours you use are really vibrant. Do you work from the actual miniatures as reference?
Most of the 40k stuff I used to draw was in black and white because alot of the ethos of 40k was dark and gothic but they seem to have brightened it up recently.
I'm gonna do some paintings based on the Imperial Guard soon as I used to have a huge Guard army. I never played the games much, but the Imperial Guard had huge tanks and these cool commissar guys.
Nice one Psionic.

Thanx mister, We both (Me and my bro') get inspired by the miniatures and artwork in white dwarf but neither of us have ever even played the game, we just like the dark artwork and background history. Glad you liked the pic and I look forward to seeing some of your work.

The character is cool, even if I never was into those Warhammer 40k miniatures... nice work on all the details.
I think the background should be much darker, since now I'm losing the characters contours in all the bright red stuff happening behind him. Darkening/changing background color Would make the guy stand out more.
I think I said the same thing twice :Q

I very like your pic. It's difficult to find good w40k artworks on web, and i think your art is cure for this problem.

The contrasts on both the character and background is too high, i think. It's hard making out what the different parts is.

That's not what i meant. What i meant was that because everything has the same contrast value, it's hard to focus on just one thing, and it also causes parts to melt together into each other. If you for example
squint with your eyes while looking at the pic it becomes a big coloured blurr and it's hard telling the two elements from eachothers.
It's not necessary to give every part the same amount of detail and contrast.
Hmm... could this be of any help?

Basically what micke is saying is that even though he is supposed to look like his environment you still want the focus of your picture to stand out. While your background is blurry the shading you used in your coloring makes the main character blurry as well. The main character should be sharp and defined compared to his surroundings. My suggestion would be to put a white layer over the background and up the transparency on it. Kinda fade out the BG. I'm probably not helping am I? hehe ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Micke is absolutely right, the contrasts are way to high and there's no color or contrast changes from the backgr to the forground. I understand that it is supposed to be some sort of mech-tech overkill thing, but that doesn't exscuse the shading values.
Take Bisley for example, he loves to detail like that, but since he vary with contrast and detail amount within the pictures, you can always see what everything is. Also, even though it's plenty of details, it doesn't always have to go all the way down to black. That there's no thought through lights with direction doesn't help much either.
I don't mean to sound harsh, I'm just trying to give you a few helpful tips

Yep I agree with you guys, its an old pic and being shrunk down and compressed hasn't done it any good at all but I also agree with the contrast and stuff being all f~*ked up, thanx for the advice guys!

Sure, Psionic, blame it on the JPG compression and Adobe Photoshop downsize Regardless of what you think, you must ALWAYS listen to Joachim and Mikael They should never be doubted, well, at least regarding digital art. If they say having sex with men is better, you are allowed to doubt them.. BUT ONLY IT THAT SITUATION .
I did a little revamping on it.. First of all, I inversed the colors while keeping highlights on the background. This caused for a better constrast on the foreground/background elements of the image. I also added some fumes on the bottom, to make it look like there is a floor. I also blackened the background afterwards and I removed some red and added other colors on the character to make him stick out more. I also painted some other misc things on the character himself. Hooray! |

I also forgot to mention, you have tons of lightsources that never seem to come from the same place. For example, the shading on the top of the gun comes from a different location than the "barrel" of the gun. Also, what yellow color is the gun reflecting? Where is it coming from?

You have way too much time on your hands yeah I agree again, but the yellow is meant to be a gold-plated type material, (another poor excuse coming up) and I did paint this picture about 2 years ago. Thanx for constantly and relentlessly pointing out all of my pictures many faults.

It's not that I have alot of time on my hands, on the contrary, but I imagine myself that I want to give the example of how this message board should be. I mean, I would love for someone to take time and find out the goods and bads about the pictures I would draw ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

After seeing one of your images yesterday and thinking "that's brillant", I was almost wondering "what's happened here, has the guy taken a step backwards" (then I saw that it was done 2 years ago). The character and the background look really good (how do you get that detail?!), they just don't look good together. I'm not going to say too much as I think everyone has made there point about the contrast issue but it was something that grabbed me at first.
Interesting to see in two pictures how much of your style has changed and been refined, yet still retaining it's core elements.
