Hi! I recently purchase a wacom and i have a question. For all your art work, do you draw directly on your computer with your tablet or do you usually draw on paper first and then scan in in? |

Allo. I've been a wacom user for about two years now. At first, I scanned all my drawings that I had, and colored or touched them up.
Now a days, it totally depends on my project. You have to find what you like better. It might save time just to sketch on your tablet, then add a new layer in whatever program you're using, (I reccomend Painter very highly if you just got your tablet), and then continue your drawing. I use this technique for comics and the such. Sometimes, I do a pencil drawing, scan it in, make a new layer in photoshop set to hue, and paint over the pencil lines, but the pencil lines stay in tact.
Basically, there's TONS of possibilities with a tablet just have fun and mess around

Well I'm not really a good statistic since before I got my tablet I couldn't really draw anyway, but recently I draw both on paper and on the tablet, but separately. ie I sketch stuff on paper, to learn to draw with a pencil, but I also sketch on the computer, although sometimes I do a pencil sketch to get the proportions and position better for the silhouette, and then draw the silhouette on the comp.

The first day I had the Wacom up and going, I looked at the screen and said "this is impossable" ..... so I kept drawing all day, untill I did not "see" the interface. It was magic. Now I do all my work, begining to end, on the Wacom... however, I would use any technique that allowed me to get the job done the way I see it in my mind.
Some times, when I have been drawing for 9-10 hours, I find I have my chin resting on the tablet, and the pen in dancing around next to me!

Here is a link to a page on my site that has an example of a comic I drew fading from my sketch on the wacom (in Painter), the black outlines (in Painter), and the final color still (in Phosothop). Gotta have flash to see it.

Making this guy took very little time to get from the sketch phase to inking. Now with scanning and drawing, sometimes I feel I've got to make my drawing look very good on paper before scanning it in. Maybe it's because scanning takes a while, so you want your sketch to be done well.
So basically, it's easier to just sketch on the wacom. It's up to how you like it really.
