No offense, b u t:

It's funny how people that put out a 5 min so-so sketch NEVER forget to put their SIGNATURE on it - and they always make sure it's HUGE!
I mean, it's ok to sign your image, of course. But I get the impression that in many cases the signature was put there to make up for the not so cool image ...

Put more energy in your paintings instead of your signature ... happy painting!

C'mon people, is there really a need to put down this Jr. Member that much? I mean sure he's still starting off, and as he said, he's still learning to draw on the computer. It's comments like your's that discourrage me to post my doodles that I do in my sketch book. Negative criticism that continue is not really fun to the artist who did the work. Sure it may suck, but that doesnt mean just go up to the person who drew it and say "Hey, it kinda sux man... hehe". I may sound like a hag here, and I'm sorry about that, but really people...

now now, thats a little cruel. he/she/it never said the pictures were good... i do agree that its kind of weird that u'd sign a 2 minute scribbly tho.

anyway, i would feel very disheartened if a bunch of people came and told me i suck. even if i do! i just want to say, keep practicing and try to make it lineart so u can color and shade and stuff better.

Okay, honestly, I don't think the pictures are THAT bad. Certainly not bad enough for him to be flamed for making them. I laughed when I thought of that mirror thing, so I just had to put it down somewhere... But really, we were all at this stage at one time, and it's practice that makes us better. Let's not turn him off to art altogether, because with the proper encouragement and tips, he can get very far with it.

And about signing doodles... I do the same thing. I sign everything I make. Even little scribbles. Now that I think about it, I can't really explain WHY I do that, but I just do. Let's not hold it against him.

As everyone else said, just keep on practicing, dood. You'll get there eventually.

That last post I made didn't mean anything, by the way. I just crack myself up sometimes and feel the need to share. Go me!

Okay, I'm the kind of person who, when insulted, gets more motivated . . . but most people aren't like that. This guy has obviously not done a lot of art before, but everyone in this forum had to start somewhere.

He's definitely a beginner, but does that invalidate his desire to create art? Throw him a fucking bone dammit.

He's not trolling, he's not stealing other people's shit, he's trying to be creative.

Hightop: try checking out some drawing books, or taking an art class at your school. English isn't your first language, but if you can read it pretty fluently, there's a book called "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" that can help you see the world like an artist does, which is way more important than any Photoshop technique or special art tool.

Here's a simple excercise you can try that will force your brain to seperate images from ideas (really important for drawing):

- Get a sheet of paper and a pencil or pen.
- Make a fist with the hand you don't draw with.
- Now slide the paper off to the side, out of your field of view, but not so far away that you can't comfortably draw on it.
- Look at some reference point on your fist, a deep wrinkle or the end of a finger
- Starting at the point, follow the contours of your hand with your eye, while drawing them on the paper off to the side. Do /not/ look at your drawing, look only at your hand.
- Once your eye has covered your whole fist, take a look at your drawing. It probably won't look like a hand, and its not supposed to. The idea is to seperate the idea of a hand from what the shapes and lines in a hand actually look like.

Its called blind contour drawing, and while it gets boring after you've done it a few times, its one of the best ways to force your brain to think like an artist.

Keep at it.

G'day Hightop,

I must admit I'm a little surprised by some of the seemingly negative comments here but it isn't something I wish to engage in. I just hope that you aren't discouraged by anything mentioned here. You are trying and that's GREAT to see.

You certainly seem to have an interesting style of character - a dark, black, pyschotic...something. Maybe just ease off a little with the backwards and forwards 'scribbly' (can't really describe them so don't get offended) black lines everywhere. Instead replace these with different tones. For example, one the face, start with the flat cream colour you have. In places were there are 'highlights' (such as in the checks or other places where light will reflect off), use an airbrush with a lighter cream colour. In places where there are shadows (such as behind the jaw), use a darker cream. Once you are confident with using 3 cream colours, try using some shades in between those 3 in the appropriate places. If you use snap shots in PhotoShop, start with an image with one shade of the colour (ie cream), take a snapshot, add in highlights and shadows, take a snapshot, then flick between the two (effectively turning the effect on and off) and see how the shadows and highlights are working and add to the image. This will help you to try and understand how the highlights and shadows work, when and where to use them.

Keep it up and you'll be an art guru in no time.

Yeah, I agree with Matt. Help him out don't bash him and belittle him?

Did you enjoy people telling you that you sucked when you first started.

Many of your comments were downright rude.
Lets be civil here folks.

yes well..
its a nice try and stuff.. but paint isnt the best program to draw on.. nothing wrong with it but..

im new to graphics and stuff so im not that good either.. but get a piece of paper and pacer and rubber and sketch your idea first.. ive got some nice sites which show how to draw faces and stuff.. and its mostly starting off with stick figures or circles and cones.. and then you progress from there..
try on paper first and then once u get ur idea do it on paint..
well thats jus what i think sorry if its offensive or anything.. well goodluck

here are the cool sites www.polykarbon.com www.draw.itgo.com www.jdillon.net/tutorials/index.html

well i duno if im allowed to post other people's hompaegs.. i thik its alright.. well try those three they should have links to others.. they are a good help.. well happy sketching mr. monkey.
