the progress slides are at http://www.april.f2s.com/fantasy/shifterslides.html

the bigger versions are at http://www.april.f2s.com/fantasy/shifter.html

the pic looks like this

my comments about it are in the slides page

this was relatively quick for me (7 hours) and i think the returns were good, compared to some pieces i work on for 20+ hours but don't show the effort. i know it's still rough but i thought it was a good stage to stop

Looks cool, one thing though, turn up the contrast on the dragon lady one. The woman looks a litte too skinny and the legs look distorted, but barely. Nice job.

lethargic, i see what you mean. i finished this last night with the lights off in the room... and my monitor is very bright normally... hehe

Jenn, I don't plan on refining this further... a rough painting style was the actual excersice I'm trying to get "looser" (maybe getting in on the 300 pics in 10 days excercise would be the way to go? hah!)

Sedul, I know whachu mean ... I think the fact that they are just standing there posing? hehe... oh well... i don't think about that till after... i just think of a "cool" image and they just happen to be posey/showoff configurations, not realistic for a scene.

AprilYSH-

I think the dragon thing should have some different surfacing in parts, the wings especialy. And yes it does look very artificial. I would spend more time on some thumbnails before I spent 7 hours on something. You can still have a "show off" or otherwise purely character pic but have some interaction between the subjects. pump some personality in there. Spend a while just drawing little pics on paper or in PS very small. matchbox size. Draw your idea then and you might get some more ideas.
Think in terms of shapes at this stage. make sure you have some nice forms and there is something "happening" in there. not movement nessecarily but some sort of eyeflow or direction. I would also avoid using white as a diffused highlight. I think the main place you'd see a white highlight is when it's very sharp. use lighter versions of the colour and then if you want it to be really shiny put a little stroke of white in there. or a big strong white surface if you want that but keep it sharp. I don't know what the reasoning is behind this, it's just something I've been noticing.
I think the poseing and and white are letting it down a lot.
I like it when I overlook these things. Fantasy stuff is cool

hey Rinaldo, i'm in Perth! thanks for your suggestions

oh yeah, about white, the dragon was supposed to be all white too with purple undertone... i couldn't work with just white though, too hard to define the shapes, eck...
