This is the first image in a series that I'm doing right now.
I'm slowly but surely changing my style to get the result I want. I'm not totally happy with this image, but it's a milestone in learning new techniques for me.
As some of you may remember, most of my earlier stuff is pretty stiff and smooth. I think Spooge called it "academic looking".
I'm trying to break out of that.
I was immensely inspired by Veb's artwork and his techniques, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can from his paintings, as well as other artists.
I pretty much used one of Veb's paintings, the "post apocalyptic.." painting for inspiration. It's not a strait rip off, but you can certainly see the resemblance in colors.
any comments or criticisms are certainly welcome.
Before you ask...
done in painter, original size is close to 9x11 at 300dpi.

Great background and painterly style, very
veb-esk.

The only thing that I can say is that the bones
on the ground near the skulls need to be
changed. They look like they are standing
straight up. Maybe you can foreshorten them
some more or something. I'm not good at stuff
like that, but....

Can't wait to see the rest of the series

That is a cool looking pic. Are you finished with it? It makes me think of the bayoo down in Louisiana. Voodoo and stuff. It think if you painted in a slight hint of a cemetary and some oak trees with spanish moss on them it would look really great.

Thanks for the comments folks. I didn't notice the bones.I will certainly have to change it.
The actual title is "learning from the old masters"
My next one will be "learning from the new masters" based on Veb, Fred and Spooge.
The bayou idea is pretty nice, I'll have to include that in one of the series, Ilike the voodoo stuff too..Great idea folks, thanks so very much.

Chapel: hmmm I'm not sure, but for now it is done. If I continue to add anything else I will noodel it to death. All that dead space at the top will be for a masthead (I will have to present this as a magazine or book cover) so that's the reason for all the dead space, i guess I should have mentioned that.

Not much taken from my image really;-) I have no right to keep the nice green color all to myself...hehe. Nor do I find it too "veb-ish" stylewise. Anyway keep going down this road, and it can only get better;-D
