You were asking about texturing in Photoshop - I actually started making illustrations in Photoshop without any sketches, starting with a texture (in this case a picture of bark) and copying/skewing/rotating/dodging/burning them into shapes as needed. I'd suggest trying it out, it's a pretty simple way of adding as much detail as you'd like.
In my case, I need to actually work back to making line drawings, because my work is started to look way too textured.

Hey, thanks to you. I like your style. And I would like to test your method with my style... but, I had to give that tablet back. It wasn't mine. This guy just lend it to me, to show me that WACOM is still the best Now I'm thinking bout buying one too... but I really can't afford it at the moment. Drivers licens is taking up all my money. newt, that is BRILLIANT! i did this method once before but the result wasn't much. now i see what can be done! my god, i've just experienced a revelation!!!
this is a great piece in itself too.

Actually - I don't have a Wacom tablet. This was done with a mouse and Photoshop 4.0.
