Hey Peoples. Im currently designing logos and graphics for my friends website. Problem is however, I can only achieve, low rez Gifs with transparencies. I've heard about this new PNG format, but im a tad suspect. Can anyone clear up this transpearent issue? (sorry, bad pun...

You should hear from those more knowledgeable, but transparency isn't supported in jpg, and PNG is the only way to go if you want alpha effects in a browser. I know IE supports PNG, not too sure about Netscape, but after all, this is a Micro$oft world, eh? ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/biggrin.gif) |

Both Netscape and IE support PNG, but both have issues. They only support 1-bit transparency (ie, you can have fully-transparent or fully-opaque, but nothing inbetween).
Mozilla/Netscape 6 currently supports PNG alpha channels properly, but i doubt much of your audience is using that right now.
PNG also can get better compression than GIF.
Hope that helps a bit ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |
