Yeah the best thing to do is to just eyeball a lot of photos or old woodcuttings/tapestries of armor... or eyeball some from movies/tv shows. Take what you like best from each.. try to think about how the armor works and why each piece is where it is.

I find genuine full plate armor to be a little too small for my taste.. I like the armor huge and bulky. It's whatever your taste is..

Try watching 13th Warrior.. it's more or less a pseudo-true-story-retelling-of-Beowulf. Buliwyf has some pretty mean plate mail in it.

I'm no expert on armor though

OOooo OOoo!!

You should take a real dramatic angle ... with the viewer(camera) dipped partially under the water of the river.. getting as much of a dramatic upward angled shot as you can. There's lots of fun stuff you can do with the water too. Maybe the background is a valley.. and maybe there are slaughtered, bobbing corpses littering the water around the ensuing battle

Just a few ideas... dramatic angles are fun.

Grr!!

I want to draw a scene with Beowulf in a river, battling the Grendel, but my Beowulf sketch is crap.. First off, his pose is really dumb, secondly, I want to make him look pretty cool with some armor but not too much, because Beowulf was a barbarian/viking -esque guy. Can anyone suggest anything for me?
Thanks,
Jesse http://www.ayun.net/nomadik/
