Hey guys. I spend last weekend cranking out this website. Nothing too fancy, cuz i ain't got the time. =)
Stuff up there are kinda old....so i'll try to update it w/ new drawings often. Have a look..
btw, it's not all done, some pages are still missing, and i haven't wrote all the image comments.....guess i'll do that this weekend...
anyhow, hit me back w/ any comments. And now i finally have a site, i'll have to force myself to draw more so i can get rid of all the old and sucky stuff.
http://www.artbyfeng.com
and here are some samples...:

Very cool site..love the color scheme and so forth. Anxious for you to finish it up. Great sketchwork as well..and..looks like a cool game...great talent base over there at Liquid. I'd apply..but its a commute from Santa Monica for me (whine whine).
Keep up the great stuff!

Feng
first off let me say, thanks for answering some of my questions in the past, and second you have some great work there. I know what it's like trying to get together a site with no available !@##$^% time, so just as a heads up. After briefly looking through your stuff, the creatures section, numbers 13 & 14 are out of order, they go from 6 to 13, and 10 to 14 in their progression. It doens't really matter, but just in case you wanted to establish some kind of streamlined site update with everything proper.
don't take this as being anal (i.e. ignore me leave it, work stands up by itself), just figured I'd let you know, however, again love your work.

As usual, great stuff! I don't even think
you need to worry about making a fancy
shmancy site in the future, simples is good!
Question: What do you use for your renderings?
Specifically line, and marker.
Thanks...

Feng - What can i say dude? Un-frikkin' believable work! I especially like your creatures and architecture. Somehow they seem imbued with the most originality of form of all of your work. There's some concepts in there that just blow me away. Just rockin' man! Glad you finally got a site up. |

Feng-I haven't been looking at the forum much this week, but now that I have, I am glad that I got a slight break to see what is here, or I might have missed this thread. YOu are so damn good my friend. YOur creature designs and your environments are absolutely spectacular. There is so much originality here, I am especially impressed with the creatures. Very nice volumes, and very well thought out.
It will be interesting to see where your art goes as you start to implement more color into the work. YOu have such a wonderful eye for form. These designs are just amazing. I am starting to feel a bit redundant, so I will stop now. You have really inspired me to get back to my own design work. As soon as I get home at night, I am so burned out on design I don't do it. And I have so many ideas right now. I think I am going to work on a much simpler level too. These designs you have are complex, but very simple in terms of what you put in and what you left out. I would like to get some feedback from you when I get them up. I really admire your eye for form, and I think you would have so much valuable info to give.
Keep this up and keep posting the stuff. It is really great to see a truly inspired artist at work.

Geez! What a sucky website!
Where are the flash animations, where is the 'loading' time? Nothing moves, nothing blinks, no music. Bad design. Bad design all around!
And why this dark background? Why not a beautiful pink, a bright yellow, or some kind of festive busy pattern with warm colors?
I was also looking for deadlinks, empty pages, xxx banners, where are they, man?
If you want some good examples of GOOD websites try those:

Your stuff truly is top shelf Vortx. I think what makes your images so sparkly is that they're so original. Like someone else said earlier.. I'll have to try hard not to be influenced by your style

It's been mentioned a few times now, but I have to mention it again: Great Line Quality. That and the balance in your drawings make them top notch in my book. Your site is bookmarked (great design too, have you had any web design experience?)

Wow again! Thanx for all the encouraging words. I will definitely work my ass off to improve. I've learned a lot of drawing techniques from this forum, but the most important thing i obtained from here is inspiration. You guys really make me wanna just go home and draw.....even on days when i'm tired. There are so many hard working and talented artists here, and it's great to be able to share our skills and learn from each other.
Okie, let me see if i can answer some of the questions:
- Yeah, i think i'm gonna keep the simple design. This also makes it easy for me to edit and add new features.
- General Confusion - yeah, i know about the messed up number thing. It has to do w/ last minute design changes and lack of time to re-name everything. Maybe i'll fix it tonght...thanx tho...good eye.
- The Dude - i answered this question about materials in other posts...but basically, i use a very fine black ink pen and prisma color markers. And soon: photoshop...finally...
- Joachim & Micke - wow, it feels so good to hear encouraging words from you guys. Both of you have such cool styles and amazing drawing skills. Yes, i'll love to share links w/ you guys...i'll add that feature in tonight. =) Thanx!
- Hew - I'll add all the info about the pix maybe this weekend. It just takes so much time to do those things....i rather draw and play video games...haha..
- Jenn - Hmmm...usually takes me about 1 to 2 hours for a sketch. It's coming up w/ the ideas that take a long time. Since i do concept work, both the design and the sketch quality have to be good. It's a lot easier to "pretty" up a sketch then to come up w/ fresh new designs.
- Daz199 - tutorial? Well, i'm think of doing an article for 3dpalette when it gets up. Think i'll do a "marker/pen" demo. So it won't be long. In the mean time, check out doug chiang's site...he has a very similar demo....
- Fred - glad you like my stuff man. I was all thinking..."man, Ron is gonna laugh when he sees all my crappy-ass anatomy stuff.."(and you have every right to, they really suck). But it's a good thing, makes me work harder. Glad you like the designs tho. Can't wait to see some new design from you. I'll try to share much knowledge as i can w/ you.....and everyone else =)
- black-fish - what can i say? haah..j/k. When are you gonna bring those kenji sketches in man? i'm dying to see them!
o man.....i'm tired now. If i missed anyone...i apologize. Thanx for all the awesome inputs everyone. Talk to you guys tomorrow..
glad to see the "presto" crew back in action. You guys were quiet for the past few days....crunch mode?
