I like it, something a little bit different but tasteful. Working with the blue overtune gives a calm feel to the page. It is interesting to have a blue rose when naturally you think that one would be red.
My only concern would be how the links to "home", portfolio etc are going to work? When you click on them, are they going to show up in the bottom section or will you be taken to another page. If they just show up in the bottom, you will have alot of dead space at the top

I agree with Matte Elder about the dead space bit. You have halved your page and that leaves you little room for content.
It's as if your over all design is the main focus of the site. Is it? Or is the content the main focus? I maybe reading too much into this with only the home page showing.
To be brutally honest:
the first thing I saw was the rose, then after that, that's all i could see. I can see why you have a blue line leading form the rose to the navigation, but the blur on the rose keeps holding my attention and it hurts my eyes. maybe you could soften the edges instead of blurring it like you did?
the text for you navigation is pretty blury, mabe it's from just posting this image instead of visiting the actual site, so I'll leave that one alone
The contrast between the soft organic rose and the hard metalic gear is GREAT! I would love to see more of this worked into your over all design. Maybe your interface also.
I think you have a good design here, and some outstanding ideas showing. I just believe it could be taken further. It's up to you and how much time you have also. but please remove the halved page idea, it will come back to haunt you later on.

Very very nice. Nothing wrong, make sure you make it open in a fixed popup 'cause this sure as hell wont scale Post the thing when it's online. |

Whoa, thanks for all the suggestions guys.
As for the empty space thing.. that was intentional. Not everything has to be balanced.. there is always something to be said for asymetrical design. In any case, I took a good hard look at it, and I wasn't exactly happy with the way the space was laid out either. So, with your suggestions in mind, I moved the menu up to the top, and pretty much changed the whole look :P .. Design was the main focus - not content.
And yes, it will appear in a fixed pop-up. Here is my updated version:
Here is an image with both layouts side by side for easier comparison:

Thanks guys!

I thought the gears and cogs in the first one were good. but now thet're lost. The rose looks a bit cheap (Filterish) and is distracting. I think a lot of the contrast is gone in the new one. It would depend on what goes down the bottom but maybe a stronger watermark BG with those gears or something would make it all come together. it just seems like another top navasgation bar to me. The logo doesn't atand out very much either (don't know what your intentions are). On the whole the eyye flow isn't working for me at the moment. Some good idea in both of the versions but nothing that strikes me as really comeing together. my eye shoots across the screen and isn't given anything to hold onto. I think the first one was working better. ou need something at the right to keep the eyeflow working. The rose and band of colour act as an arrow.
It has the potential to look really good, but It needs some tweaking.
I think the logo turned out well
Maybe you could use it to a greater extent, possibly go for a more typographic solution. |

looks very nice Humanclay...now finish it I'm very unpatient....can't wait to see the content. Put up a lot of your marker renderings, ok
Btw, maybe you should consider removing that very top left little white spot at the edge of the rose. It's a bit disturbing for the eye.
