This is my first "serious" picture that I'm putting effort into for a change, i'd like to get good at this stuff and i have a long way to go. Problems are springing up as I work into it further such as the nose, the left eye and the hair and it's kind of lopsided.
Any tips anyone has would be appreciated, as would suggestions for what to do with the background. |

AHH!! Sorry, this person looks freaky! I'm not sure if that's this point, if not, sorry. Just with the pale lips and near black eyes, it looks like a corps (my dad was once a mortition, so i've heard the stories) just make the eyes lighter and he skin darker. |

Looks promising although there is just something about the image that I can't quite put my finger on. Might be one of a few things:
1) the eyes are really contrasting in colour to everything else and grabs your attention with that eerie feeling
2) The eyes have really well defined edges where as most other parts of the image are blurred and not as sharp.
hmmm.... still not 100% sure

yes the eyes are really dark, and the proportions are off on the face. The right side of his face is much to curvy..... take a look at your own face in the mirror or anyones face for that matter, does the side of their face really curve that much from that angle? i think not.. at least i hope not! as well as your forehead looks a little short, and the nose is not defined like the eyes are. what i would suggest as has been suggested to me many times is... create a VERY large canvas to work on, sketch out your face and proportions first, THEN crop the image how you want it...this will help getyour proportions in order otherwise your gonna turn out all lopsided, curvy, and outta whack. i think you also should define where the light is comming from a little better, block in the main shadows and values of the face first, before you start dodging and burning, and perhaps stay away from the dodging and burning for a while till you get the basic face in there, as you practice more and get more familiar with photoshop or whatever software program yoru using, you will use those dodge and burn tools less and less and deal more with color, values and technique with various tools to achieve the desired effect. I like what you have so far, keep up the good work! i hope i was helpful in some way!
