Well, sort of. As usual, I got sidtracked part way into it. I did the sketch in Photoshop, the basic color layout in Painter, and started adding detail in Photoshop. I don't know if I should finish it or not-has potential I guess, but doing the background would take a little while(to do those dead guys well-I've not had much practise at drawing people lieing on the ground). Anyway, as always, comments and criticisms are not only asked for, but demanded! ^_^
And here's the biggy: http://www.antsin3d.com/portfo/conan1.jpg
Thanks,

Hmmm... shouldn't you try to get rid of the black lines and stuff?

Yeah, it's a really nice pic, but in Veb's tutorial, it looked to me like he was painting OVER the sketch... |

Yeah, I guess I should paint over the black. That's why I said I got sidetracked. Maybe I'll switch to Painter again and try to follow his guidelines. Thanks!

I really like the way the image is coming along. I thought the Conan tut was excellent (although I've got now idea on how to get that 'oily' feel - I'm guessing it's a painter thing as I haven't ventured past photoshop yet).
Anyhow a suggestion for the back ground, put in some pine trees covered in snow. This will also allow you to play around with shadows (but make sure your light source is consistant as it is a bit hard to tell at the moment where the sun would be).
Once I thought of the tree, I saw the the grass and thought to myself, I've never really seen grass growing in snow as it is too cold. Maybe loss the grass or may them little bushes.

Cool...yes, you should overwork more of the sketch, but you`re getting the technical point.
Looking forward to see updates on this one.

Suggestion, get rid of the background for now, worry about that later, just put in some color, and work more on the Conan at this stage. Target all your effort at one stage at the time(first skin, face, armour etc.)Put it beside my image, or any better artist out there and try to look closely and analyze the differences both technical and artistical.
Then, when your done, maybe find a cool landscape photograph and use as reference when making a background.
I liked the previous background more, since the trees dwarf Conan. |

Thanks much Vebjorn, I'll see what I can do. Perhaps I'll just forget the shading I had on the sketch and do it nice and bright, like it would be on a snow filled plain.

Just threw in a few trees, and lightened up his face a touch. Haven't added shadows yet-if I create shadows on the trees, it will give credence to the dark shadows on him, eh?
