Well, you have very little detail in there so far, so the forshortening probably won't be noticable yet. Add in a hand with fingers, and be sure that you get the anatomy right on the arm(it's not hard in that situation really).

Good point... I'll give that a go (adding more detail to the hand). I'll try the (Craig again) technique of selecting the area I wanna detail up, copying it, pasting it in a new file, increasing the image size and working on that...

Hope it looks ok :-P

Any other comments are welcome! And they don't have to be about the arm... I know the rest is probably pretty bad too...

Did a little work on the arm... hope it's actually better :-P I defined the hand a lot more I believe... The hand is actually quite dark and small so it's hard to see much detail (it was easier when I had it blown up to 1000 pixels width...).

I also added a few more stuff here and there, as you can see. Oh, and I changed the hue a little bit to make it less pink.

Please rip it to pieces :-) I'm doing this piece to learn stuff so please tell me everything you can see (which I have even a remote chance of fixing) which is wrong...

Edit: Forgot to put the image... duh.

Hey SM, its a nice start. Some thoughts i had:

- check the perspective on the the hallway behind him, the angle at which he is standing and the angle of the hallway is off, perhaps show less ground (view it from a shallower angle)
- His body seems to be leaning to one side (the left side of the image)
- because the image is "taken" from a number of feet away, it don't think there would be noticable forshortening (i know you havent put it in, but just something to keep in mind
if your gonna change anything)

here is my take on the lighting around the arm. it certainly is a tough one, and i'm not sure if i got it 100% right, i hope it helps.

One thing i did was tilt the gun a bit so you see more than just the front of the gun, this way it gives more information to the view as to the volume it takes up

The second pic you did looks awesome! He looks like Jaws (from earlier 007 movies) in a red StormTrooper get-up. Pretty sweet.

Dhab's I like how you made the suit shiney. You should have tilted the gun the opposite way though to give it that "gansta" style look to add mystery.

Some sweet stuff though none-the less

Dhab, I still wish to talk with you.

You need to differentiate betwixt the fingers more. Right now it still looks like one blob. If I get a chance I'll fix 'er up there for ya...

Did a (literally) 2 minute go-over. If Fred wasn't in love, or if Craig wasn't scarce to come by I'm sure they do it. Dhabih's looks good, but you're trying to do Craig's thing I know. Anyway, basically I just killed that horrid light above his head, added brighter highlights, changed his eyes, changed his hand and arm, and changed the walls and floor. I didn't want to work on it too much, cause it's your pic, so go to it! Hope it helps anyway.

PS: I just noticed I missed his bicep in the forshortening. Oh well, it would go above and to the right of the forarm.

Wow! Thanks a lot guys :-) Thanks for taking the time!

Dhabih your version looks awesome... kinda blasts mine away but hey... :-P I'll try drawing the gun the way you did (but with the tilt the other way), and I think I'll make a later suit shiny sometime...

Anthony thanks a LOT :-) That was precisely what I needed. Now I have an idea how to go about drawing a fore-shortened arm :-) Oh, and you're right: I probably should have got rid of that light a loooong time ago :-P I think I'll patch up my version to look more like yours (ie make the highlights brighter and wider, and get rid of the light, and make the side lights glow, etc... :-) )

weepee :-)

I'm so happy :-)

Thanks guys!!

Daniel

I re-drew the soldier from Craig's tutorial on 3Dpalette.org, using the same sillhouette, and came up with something that looked decent. So I made some sketches, made a new sillhouette (100% mine :-) ) and tried the same technique, and although it's coming out a lot better than most of the stuff I've done so far, there's still a lot of mistakes everywhere (not much of a surprise).

More specifically, I've spent about half an hour on that stupid arm (the one holding the "gun", pointed at YOU!), but I can't get the shading to look like something other than a short stump with some weird thing at the end...

Something which would really help would be a sketch or an example of how the light would fall on the arm in this situation, how to make it look good - this would probably take half the people here about 1 minute or so... but eternity wouldn't help me :-(

Please help me!!!
