Hi everyone, this is my first post at these forums and am glad I found them
Just thought I'd start my posts off here by letting you all know about the game I have been passionately following for a year now and which I havnt even played yet as its still being made.
The game is World War 2 Online, and all I will say about it is this:
Troops, Tanks, Planes and Ships all fully controllable in 1st person view over a 2:1 scale map of the whole world except the poles....
go to www.wwiionline.com and get ready to catch your jaw.

Shadow, are you seeing this?
We'll play on Russian side and win the war
Weeeeeeeeeeee...
PS: screenshots look like the war is WW1 not WW2 though.. Costume styles and tanks/mahcinery (not airplanes). Anyway, kinda like EQ eh? Wish there was more outside detail

Nup this games not gonna work...
it nots gonna get enough players participating.... the gfx suck the maps are too huge... its not gonna work..
It has a monthly fee > I would of bought and played this game if there was no monthly fee...
It really is a hard task to make a game of this caliber ...
I just dont think we have the technology to pull it off succesfully yet... |

Love the idea, but monthly fee? I think I am out too. Unless it is only like 5.95/month or so. |

Hi guys, sorry I didnt get back here sooner.
Yes it will be a monthly fee, but remember, they are still in closed beta testing and are still only working on the first theatre "Blitzkrieg- 1940". They intend to map 10 seperate theatres which span the whole globe in half scale, and each theatre (at the moment) holds upto 1000 players. The monthly fee is to ensure the creators can eat/live/breathe in order to keep working on future theatres, the technolgy (weapons vehicles etc) that will be introduced over the 1940-45 period and improved graphics/models.
If your concern is the lack of player numbers, remember that 5000 people applied for closed beta positions when applications were being taken. Check out the community and see how many dedicated squads you find.
Graphics look crappy? Well, this is no single player eye-candy fest...its a simulation. Infantry can independently turn their heads in any natural position and will sustain injuries effecting blood loss, shock and fatigue. ie. you get hit in the leg and blackout for a few seconds etc. If your lucky, you'll clot up and your blood will stop draining. Mind you, your performance there on will be impeded. And remember Its still in closed beta phase
All these factors come into play when trying to simulated real world physics etc. and the type of player willing to embark on a 3 hour mission across France isnt looking for fluff balls on the enemy's coat...They want to know that the equipment they are using will look and respond the same way it did in real life.
I've heard all the 'It wont work' theories at the WWIIOL forums and everytime one of the Cornered Rat Software team gets on and explains how it has worked.
Keep an eye on this one.

All purely combat/logistics/strategy. |
