Well, I got myself a wacom tablet. I'm 15 and will get photoshop soon, and I'm currently using painter classic (the one that came with my tablet). I met dhabih back when I was in what, 6th grade, while playing an old online game called The Realm. He told me some nice things about how he started young, and its kept me going with art and eventually got me to put up the bravery to forfeit all Christmas presents (almost, anyway) and get myself a wacom tablet.

Sorry bout the lecture, anyway, heres one of my first dootles I've been working on. the feet need work, but I'm lazy and am working on my next drawing so here ya go.

One thing, I basicly went through dhabih's tutorial on this web page in painter without layers. Its my first attempt at anything I'd call a drawing. Any suggestions or comments welcome

Have you had a look at spooges tutorial.

Go here
http://www.3dpalette.org/features/cmullins/september/

Maybe try thinking less in line more in solid blocks of colour. Get some contrast going. whack a background in there. Always try to start off big and go small. deal with the details last and the bigger issues first.
I thnk someone was drawing a big cat here a little while ago. It was looking pretty good. you migh want to have a look for it. uae the search maybe?

Rinaldo: Hadn't seen that tutorial, looks pretty good. Yea, it started out as a sketch and I just put in colors within the dhab tutorial steps... made it kind of hard without photoshop, which is in the mail so that shouldent be much of a problem. Thanks for the advise.

Photoshop should not help you any better than Painter. I think your main problem, which is what Rinaldo probably suggested, is that you rely too much on lines, not only the obvious silouette ones, but the color areas too. Try to dirty your painting with big blobs of painting, with really big brushes, and so go from general to detail. BTW, did you draw that with the tablet too? I can only use my tablet for coloring, I cannot draw a thing with it (yet )

Nice start, the best way of learning is by lots of practice, or at least thats wh i believe, i started drawing well, a very long time ago, now i'm teaching my little bro's how to... or at least trying to teach them, i think they like drawing on walls better!

Keep it up....stay confident! Other than that I'd say just sit back and learn from these guys for a while. Soon or later you'll be infected.

Thanks for all the help guys. I generally sketch with lots of really light lines, and I can do it pretty well in the tablet, its just when I color over it it absorbs all the lines and it looks really messy. I think maybe I can try sketching in one layer and making an outline and painting in another. Also until I buy photoshop (drawing isn't the only reason I want it) I'm gonna try just screwing over the lines with big painting brushes as you suggested.

Also, for anyone who knows what The Realm was, I was Seaflier and was apart of the clan DoE (defenders of eternity). Dhabih, if you ever read this, I loved your old realmserver web page design. Used to visit it every once and a while after I shook the habit of The Realm (addictive) just to admire the art. Sad they took it down, but apparently some other company bought the realm up.

And just for kicks, I still have your old Chapel's Realm bookmarked
