If nothing else, these are at least a bit more ordinary than the dreaded birdwalker from a few days ago...

The guy looks a bit odd since there are some problems with the proportions from the abs up. Also, I got so fed up with it I couldn't get myself to paint the shadows the big head thingie and the chair would cast.

Hmm, I wonder if my medication has anything to do with my boosted productivity. I sure have finished a lot of pics during the last week :)

Love'em :-) Btw, I realise that "realism" is not the point, but that beast in the second drawing must be having one heck of a neck-ache with that big a head on that thin a neck :-P

something in the balance of the bottom creature bothers me..i think it's something with the feet.
Is the one on the top digital/scanned? nice line detail.

Sushi: Yeah, she sure must be in pain. That's the price you gotta pay for looking slim.
Or... maybe there's some really light gas packed in the head extension and the neck just keeps the head from floating away? :D

bilbo: The second creature would need a much heavier tail to keep it standing like that. Wait... what if, just what if the extension on the back of the head was filled with some kind of light gas, an-Shut up, Gecko.

Gecko: Hey, that whole gas thing actually makes the size of that thing's head in comparison to its neck plausable! I like it, it gives the creature a funky little weakness too. If it was attacking something, all you'd have to do is pop the gas sac and then it'd be like an ostrich with its head buried in the sand

Jeremy: I guess it could be used in some territorial battles, however, I'm not sure how stable pets they make... 1st in the face of danger, the rider would get his share of the (poison) gas, and 2nd he better not be wielding any pointy weapons anywhere near that thing :].

...even though a simple gas mask would solve the problem. So I guess she does have gas in her head.

I've almost got my BA in Biology, so this kind of stuff is cool to me. Here's a couple of other things you'd want to consider:
Breathing and eating.
Swallowing through that little thing can't be easy. Does it eat from a different orifice we can't see? And breathing?

I had this wild image of a symbiotic relationship that the critter has with tiny little insect things that are quick at patching up holes in its airsac. If the thing gets punctured, they crawl from its body and surgically patch the hole.

klaivu, yea, been sick all week. i just hope my head clears before monday :Q. The pics are totally photoshop, there's a link to a closeup version a few posts up.

Jeremy: yeah, those would be a problem, not to mention circulation. :) It needs a damn strong heart and high pulse to get enough blood for the brain all the way up there... or there could be small lung-like cavities in the cheeks, independent from the "main" lungs, that would extract oxygen for the brain only.

guess it has to eat small lizards and insects... big pieces go down as well, since the brain still gets it's oxygen the other way.

And to keep the symbionts (?) happy, the creature would use some of the gas to produce some nice, sweet fluid and emit that from glands in the skin. More holes in the bag = less food for the lil insects, keeps them motivated in their job :).
