this is my first digital painting. what went well and how could I improve?

If that is your first digital painting then I am very impressed. The pic is really cool - those mechanical details are great and the mottled metal effects are niceley rendered.
One thing though, the big pipe in the foreground could do with a little more form. For instance, those rocks beneath it might be emitting some of the light they recieve and the light might be reflecting off the pipe. So, at the edges of the pipe nearest the rocks you might be getting a grey/white reflection.
Nice stuff, very techno-industrial.

I really like the vat of nuclear liquid..and I like some of the pies..but the rocks need some work..too.."foamy". But hey..for a first piece..KUDOS!!!!!!
