Hello All,

Recently I borrowed a Loomis book from Fred(thanks!) so I could start learning how to draw the human head. I did this drawing last night and I think it represents where my skills are right now so I'd love to get some feedback on where I can improve. Also I like to hear any ideas people might have on warm-up exercises. There is a large, noticable difference in quality of the first sketch I did last night and this one.

That looks awesome, in a cartoony sort of way. It's exagerrated, if that's the look you were going for then AWESOME JOB. I like it.

Oh, I forgot to mention... The model in the mag looked like she was from India. I hope that comes through in the drawing.

Thats a tight drawing. Nice loose lines.
Eyes seem a little to flat, if it was mine i would add a little bit more shade to the corners of the eyesockets, where it meets the nose, her right one especially. Mouth is great.
I wish i had that much progress when i got my Figure Drawing For All Its Worth by Loomis.

nice.. UHm.. If I had the time I would take a little better notice of what is wrong... The things that stand out the most are her eyes moouth and eyebrows... soemthing just looks wrong. Nice line work.

Looks great! The only thing i would address is the right eye, it seems to be too far to the right & the lips look a little flat too, at that angle her lips should curve with the angle of her face. It looks like the left side is perfect. Must be left handed
Just the right eye and the right side of her lip needs a little attention other that that its Kewl!!

I took this pic and did the standard sijun brand "what is wonky test". Here are the steps so you can do this yourself too!

1. Open pic, Image: Rotate Cavas > Flip Horizontal. Mirror that image. The earlier you do this, the better, as you will pic up details that have literally burned into the region of your brain while composing (and thus losing sharpness in your mind). You need a fresh view of the image so you can run those crazy and complex proportion checking algorithms.

2. While constructing images, even sketches... take a look at the lay of the face first, lay out some horizontal and vertical lines for the proportions of the face.

- Central line
- Eye center line perpendicular to the last one

and, well, all the others, I think you know this stuff already :P

Her right eye was too high and the slant of the eye was too angular, by like 8-9 degrees.
I rotated it and lowered it and it looked better.
I just made a new layer to draw the guidelines over and moved stuff around according to that. The mouth and nose were perfectly placed btw, just that darn eye was nutty. Oh, and good ear too: those things are hard to draw!

Here is the reference image I used. I should have put this up originally, but better late than never. I took them both into pshop and did an overlay. Her right eye and the left corner of her mouth are definately off. Thanks everyone for your feedback.
