I don't understand how you all make so much art. I have barely anytime to do anything. By the time I get home I have been on the ocmputer all day trying to make things work and be creative. One of the hardest things I find is to go home and pick up my tablet and get soemthing out. I went home last night and spent another 2 hours working. Then I had this idea for a zealot [ I am guessing you all know what one of these are or at least have an idea] And I sat down while I was talking on the phone and tried to draw it. It didnt work at all. It felt like work. How do you guys do it? I mean you mostly work with art all day.. Then to go home and squeeze soemthing perosnal out.. If any of you have some hints you can give me I would be extremely greatful.. Also how do you all find enough time?

TTFN Jenn

Characters are pretty easy. I generally think up at least one a day.. Or I wonder how this sort of person would look and so on. Its getting the time for everything that I have a problem with and also sittign down at another computer when I get home after soending all day on one.

Doot I think you just need to have the ideas put them on paper.. See what you dont like.. redraw it and so on till you get where you like it Good luck with that tho

I have a few answers for you Jenn..either..we do this art for a living..or..we do this at work when we are supposed to be working...or..we have no outside life and simply go home and draw, do 3d, digital art..whatever tickles our fancy (did I use that expression really..flame me please! ).

My average throughput for photorealistic 3D stills is about one piece every six months . . . I'd say I only squeeze in maybe 3-4 hours per week to work on them . . . wasn't prepared for how creatively exhausting it is to be an artist for a living.

Give up something that's less important. Like sleep, socializing, bathing, whatever.

Seriously though, just don't think about it as work. There's always some extra time somewhere, even if it's the ten minutes after you brush your teeth and have to go to work.

I guess this was kind of a dumb answer, but hope it helps.

Awsome I have given up alot of my social life just for my work... Its pretty hektik even tho the company is only small. Being the only webdesign / graphic designer I get all the graphics jobs to do. Maintaining sites that were done b the guy who got this job before me etc. Hehehe
I am sure everyone gets this I am jsut not used to it. I generally sleep from 3am-7am/7:30am.. SO yeh Where does all my time go? I seem to have more drive when working with people on images rather than jsut for me Sad buttrue.. All you people out there are awesome Specially you few who actually talk to me not just onhere but icq and email.. I am thankful for your presense and help

Bear with me while I make time for art

well i try to balance out my time between going to college, work, drawing, 3d, surfing and friends... i always give doing what i like doing most highest priority so for me if theres waves i skip work n school.. if theres no waves n i dont have to work or school.. im drawing or doing 3d.. i save hanging out with friends for the weekend.
as far as finding time to draw i just cut back on how much sleep i get... i know i sound like a loser but i dont care i do what i like doing.

not every drawing has to be great, neither does every artist... just as long as you get enjoyment outta what ur doing thats what counts.

Doing art at work feels like I'm doing art at work....when I go home it's like I haven't truely drawn anything all day...so it's like I have to draw something for my own amusement! I just like to get home, close myself in my little studio and put a keep out sign on the door! My only trick is to keep everyone away! Sometimes being relaxed, a long walk, a bath, or a good movie helps! I don't play videogames before I draw.....once I get to playing I won't stop til I fall over drooling in a coma!

Ah... it's pathological. I just need to do something creative - even when im completely burned out and braindead.

Otherwise a caffeine-OD would do it

Hiyooooooooooooo

hi hi, I draw when im in different moods, I know that sounds kinda wierd. But it really helps cuz then you can sometimes get straight to the point of a drawing, and not get distracted by fancy stuff. ya know? Hello...anyone listening?

Hmm a lot of you are very lucky, right now i'm in a situation like Jenn, I have no time to do anything, seriously, i get up in the morning at 5:30 to catch the train, goto school from 8am to 2:50pm (highschool) then i have football from 3pm to 6:30pm, then takes me 45 mins to get home which is then 7:15 then i eat dinner, do my homework and goto bed at 12:30 or later - now thats a very hard way to live...
