Cool stuff Joachim. You and micke should do a comic. Micke does the pencils.. you do the colors.. and I'll ink!! Yeah thats the ticket. Anyway, I'm sure I asked before, but what kind of markers do you use to do those quick renders? And are these the original size of the storyboards. Some of those panels are pretty detailed.

Nice stuff Joachim. I have the same question as Chapel though. I've often wondered how big storyboards usually are. I've oftened wanted to do some storyboarding of my own for various projects, but I seem to really lack the know-how.

Joachim, those storyboards are great...hehe -- Do you use any reference to the technical work (machinery/vehicles/etc) or are they all from imagination...?
When I do sci-fi or modern technology stuff, I gather as many photos as possible from online and make sure I get in stuff like decals/warning labels, soot around exhaust ports, stuff like that...Was wondering if you do the same...?

You gotta remember though chim, storyboards are not meant to look good. They are meant to give an idea to the other artists, designers or producers. Your storyboards are actually very nice, and they depict the sequence of events rather well. I think you did a great job on them.

These are really nice...very! Good layout, consistance and nice art job! The small technical detail is incredible! Is it war? An airstrike perhaps?

The only thing that seems a bit confusing is that you didn't establish to the view if there were more than one chopper. So when the first one gets trashed, I couldn't piece the landing chopper with the other! One simple establishing shot to let the viewer relize that there is indeed more than one would clear that up.

This reminds me of James Bond or the new M.I stuff....nice work man...very!

this stuff is great. far better than that of film school hacks I've seen.
not a lot of room for direction notes though; but since it's just you guys doing it that won't be a problem.
great.

incidentally; how do you note pans and turns and dolleys etc?

Hmm, I thought I could post some REALLY quick storyboards I did for the movie sequences in our game (about 5-10 min max each). Actually, I did about 120 of these, but I won't bother to scan them all, since they are rather crap. But, I noticed that to do a bunch of quick sketches, which had to be based on certain angles, etc. and force yourself to not think about the drawing itself but more what purpose they have, is a really good training. And, after I did like 30, the rest became better with half the time spent and much less thinking before starting to sketch. I'm sure if an artist did like a comic of 50 pages, and he mostly tried to just make the story as readable and good as possible, the drawing skills would increase a lot for every page....I wish I had the time and motivation to do that.

If someone else have done some storyboarding here, feel free to post them

Cool storyboards! Nice rendering and camera shots. I think I might have gotten bored after the first 20, but I guess that's what you're getting paid for

thx alot for all the nice feedback !

answering some questions:

chapel/aquamire, I think you can buy those markers in almost every art/accessorie shop there is. But, they are rather expesnsive, atleast if you want to buy lots of colors and refill. They have different sized tip on the same marker and they look like this:

called: "pantone" by letraset.
And, the images are 18cm long and 8cm tall, about 1/4 of a regular copypaper size.

vortx, thx a lot. hehe, no comic novel from me I'm more of the animation shortfilm kind of type, not very good at the comic thing...that's micke's area. But I would like to do some of it, without releasing it, just for personal improvement.

Freddio, do so !

Jenn, thx !

Plop, nice of you to say. I think ILM do star wars storyboards with markes ?!? Atleast Jon Johnston did. But, atleast if someone would do pencil rendering, markers is alot quicker, I think. Just one shadow swosh and they make the picture much clearer.

immi, hehe.

seems like there's a limit on words in one post, continues on next post....

visigoth, Well, I try to find as much reference material as possible. But, for these, since they were so wuickly done, I didn't bother. I had two bad printed pictures of the different choppers in profile, but since it's done all very quick, smost of the chopper design, except the overall shape, is just mumbo jumbo design madeup while sketching

vassago, thx, but I don't know how good these really are. They look rather bad as single images

Flexible Elf, thx !

gambit, thx !

Farwalker, thx a lot, but no no these are not from one storyline. Just randomly picked out sketches from 120 different ones. But, since the storyline is rather simple the whole game through, I can understand that it can be possible to see some continuity in these sketches, hehe.

death.tool, like I said to farwalker , Since this is not any one storysequence form the game, but just randomly scanned pictures from it, I can understand that that it didn't make all that sense. The one chopper you see on some is the one the main character flies. But, the other oner are from a totally fifferent cutscene, which are some russian choppers.....so, if there would be any continuity in any of these storyboards, I would have had to scan them all an put them in the right order.

muzman, thx ! What do you mean by note pans and turn dolleys ? It's comments under every picture on the original pictures. And, since they are to be in realtime, some of the camera pans are also being made up. These are just to give direction of the main storyline and cameraangles for the one that puts it together in the game.

Akira_x, Hehe, you are norwegian. Do you look like me ? Nice 3d model..

Sedone, hehe, believe me I was bored. But, only thing that kept me up was that I wanted the next image I made to look better than the last one....not that that happened every time

anyway thx you all !!
