Here is a 5 min sketch I did with felt tip and ball point pen. I was supposed to be studying, but oh well. Anyway, I want to develop this pic a bit more but I don't know what kind of things I should put on him. He's kinda naked and apart from those typical "arm and leg wrapping" things I can't think of anything.

Any suggestions?

Um. I hate having to bump my own thread back up, but I would appreciate any input on things I could put on my angel dude.

Well the character looks potential. I'm not really sure what your question is though Jason. If your plans were to create an character sheet...my advice is to never blacken any detail. In a character sheet the point is to provide a layout ref f the character, so provide as much ref info as possible! Try to keep your character grounded...no fancy poses and such! Get it into proportion and give a back, front, and side view (bith sides if the character differs on each side)....this all helps in developement. Add a couple of faces conveying the characters different emotion....also helps with developement!

Once you have the ref....you can go on to develope and add changes to your character. Making it easier to work with the charaters body style.....by doing your changes on another sheet it'll be easier to throw out or keep what you want.

Right now all that makes this character distinctive is the bow....I'd test a little armor.....he'd look cool with hooves BTW!

maybe some golden bracers... or big gauntlets.. something to make his hands or wrists look bigger and more powerful.

Think chainmail.. loincloth or kilt or maybe even a chainmail coif. If he's an angel try to stay away from dull steel.. all bronze or gold/platinum would look good. Everything real polished. You could also have him wear some kind of roman centurion armor.. like a chest plate.. in which case I'd stay away from chainmail if you choose that.. just some ideas.

Hey, cool drawing. I would suggest making up some kind of story about him. You know, like who is he, what's he doing, where does he live? Answering those kinds of questions will tell you what he should be wearing. Like if it's cold he'll probably be wearing a lot of fur, or if he's in a war then he'll be wearing some armour.

To me, this is the fun part of drawing, making up characters and then worlds and then seeing where it can go from there. Hope this helps.

Okay cool thank you for the input!

death.tool: I understnad what you mean by drawing it without any pose or anything like that. Thanks, that's a good idea. Since it began as a scribble I didn't think of that.

Flexible Elf: I like the idea of big gauntlets! And I understand what you mean by staying away from dull steel.

Fat Assasin: Thanks, I think I will delve a bit deeper into this character. Since it was a scribble I never considered it, but I will think up a story, it really will help.

Thanks again. Anyone else got any ideas?

-Jason

My own personal rule with male winged-angel characters is blue jeans and topless. Mmmm.. tight jeans too. that's important

That might mess with your fantasy goal, though.

You could make him more roguish like adding leather armor or some cloth wrapped around his body.

I say go with Svanar or whatever, and do that the Leather armor and cloth wraps.

Thanks for the replies everyone!
Strangefate, that is an awesome image. I really like the wings. Plus I like the belt and the concept of those thigh guard things.
You don't mind if I use a belt similar to yours?
I'm thinking about putting a fancier head ornament than the one I have at the moment too.

Extralobe, your idea is cool, but yeah, you're right it might mess with the fantasy thing.... just a bit.

np Jason, i made a shot of some figures i have, bought them when i was around 10 ...15 years ago.

They are always a good fantasy inspiration for me, it's a bit hard to make out everything in the pic but anyway.
They have ornaments and armors.

The figure's armors are all eavy metal! woohoo!!!
