Hi there.
If anyone bought a Sunday Telegraph they might recognise the pic as the reference was in the travel section.
I think the foreground looks a bit 2D perhaps?

Wow that looks really nice. wish i were there.
the water falls look really nice and the pic has a good sence of depth. the foreground does look a little flat. not sure how you could fix that though.
looks really good though |

Nice ceenda........very nice!
One crit (there has to be at least one ): the bits of grass on the far bank look to be the same size as the bits of greenery on those rocks in the foreground. this destroys a lot of the depth that could have been achived and brings that scale of it all into question.
But errrmmm.....yeah you're gettin way too good . I've seen a lot of improvement in your stuff. Those clouds especialy. What do you use for them. Anything besides brush or airbrush.
Keep it going
That rainbow is a bit overkill (are you sure it was in the ref ) |

Great picture!
In a creativity burst lately?
got no real critique on that one either..
maybe you could add some darker greens in the foreground ..
keep em coming!

If anyone ever needs evidence on how this forum can get artists to improve, just do a search on Ceenda!
Man, your stuff was great to start with, but now it's looking FANTASTIC! This has such life and vibrancy about it, it's soooo sweet!
One thing (oh god, here he goes...) - the foreground. Are those rocks, dirt, brown leaves or what? They look a bit like slate, but the colour's off, I think. I know you used ref for this, but maybe if you make em grey or something, or just made the line of them cut across the rainbow, it'd bring them to the fore more.
Hell, this is just nitpicking! I don't have any real crits - just boosting it back up to the top of the list is all
Great work man

Guy: Thanks for the complements.
Rinaldo: Cheers. I know what you mean about the depth thing. However, I think the leaves in the distant trees were quite large. Maybe I'll do a cloud tutorial if people were interested? BTW - That rainbow IS there, honest!
Nex: I'm glad you like it.
Jenn: No tropical holiday for me this year.
JayBee: Cheers , now get that book and get painting!!!
Thanks for all the crits people! Are there any more? |

Well, I might read up a bit on clouds before I go lecturing about how I do them. But seriously, would anyone be interested in a clouds tutorial - not a tutorial as such(I'm not really qualified), but a step by step account of how I go about painting clouds? |

love the pic
try adjusting brightness/contrast values for the foreground and background, for that sense of depth, that's it! |

Ceenda - fearlessly, swinging his wacom pen, he charges ahead, to boldly paint where noone has painted before ...
Soopercool!
See, you got much better at doing clouds!
One more hint - a problem I used to have/ sometimes still fight:
There's no real spacial dimension/unfolding in your clouds - they seem to stand upright.
I always had that problem too - no perspective progression of my clouds. But even though they are kinda amorphous, they also get smaller when they're further back (duh! - I know! )
Maybe they should look like this:
What I did was quite simple. I put a perspective grid over your painting. I quickly made it w/ the line function - doesn't match perfectly, but in this one can get away with a lot.
Then I 'hooked' my clouds up on those perspective lines, loosely following them. Sketching with a smaller brush further back and with a bigger one closer to the eye helps too. It's really easy - give it a try - you'll see!

Hmm... I thought you were of the chick gender? Or like the late Quentin Crisp, do you bend "every way"? Thanks for the complements, Jenn!
milano_j: Thanks for the crit, though what bits would you recommend adjusting?
Loki: Woaw! Those clouds look gorgeous! The ones in the ref were hard to determine, as the clouds seemed really thin.
Thanks for all the crits people, I'll do some more tropical/sunny pics to cheers up those of us who aren't going to Hondurus this year.

Nice work there ceeda. The middle ground area looks great!
The foreground does seem a little 2D. I know it's from a photo ref, but those details don't look "right." Maybe that's why it looks 2D. The bright grassy plants seem to be floating a bit as well. Mess around w/ it...seems like a easy fix.
Hey, great clouds Loki. The way you blended the clounds into the horizon really gives the painting a lot of depth. It feel like there are huge mountains in the distance. Reminds me of Maui....=)
