I'm not a traditional painter and generally dont take the time to try on pc as i work much more with game art like map and character textures etc.
But i decided to use my texture shading style on a painting (ie, do it all in grayscale first then colour on a new layer) and wondered what people though.
I understand that the first thing people here might comment ( as theres a more traditional philosphy ive noted here) on is that the lighting is fucked.
I wasnt trying to do realistic lighting, i was just having a bit of fun and seeing what it feels like to not actually have limitations when drawing puter art!

The background is very cool -like it a lot
but I don't know whats the thing behind the cyborg...btw his legs are very unnatural in form and angle...especially the knee-part of the legs (grrrr english..)

yeah i agree, the body is 'weird' at best, it was a sketch i did about 2 and a half years ago that i found while unpacking my art stuff at the weekend.
I just tried keeping to it and merging its comic style with a more realistic background.
Doesnt completly work , but it sure was fun

Yes I agree with the leg there. But I like the rendering of the guy & the mountain behind him!

you do realise i was mixing media styles here? i mean yes the leg is funny, but its comic art and deliberatly stylised!
just people seem to be getting hung up on the form not being realistic when it was never meant to be |

Of course. But it was a bit hard to see that both lower legs were bent forward (I suppose?), so therefor I made a comment on that.

Hey ror, man this piece rocks. Sure, the anatomy's as questionable as being scottish, but otherwise this piece is cool.
Seriously, i really like it. The background is awesome, what did you do there? More, more! |

Hey Rorshach, good to see you back around here.
I really dig it, especially the big thingy behind him, the area just above his head looks like you were sorta going for the Ken Scott/Diakatana/armor fragment type look. I really like it, even though its not as traditional as a lot of the stuff on here, its really awesome for what it is.
Hows things at your new job? Skinning the Neverending story right?

There are some flat parts on the image but for the first thing I did pick out was what you already mentioned; how you mixed your comic style with your texture style. It most definatley has that Rorshach touch to it. I like his legs btw (except the left one, it really does look broken, even for a comic

Thanks for the input peeps.
I'll be honest, i did in general have no idea what i was doing with this one.
I didnt finish the head tail as everyones noticed and the stance is completly fucked up heh.
The mixed styles come from having no idea what i was gonna do.
For a while i did think i would do really detailed shading all over those rocks... but then i thought... nahhhh i dont want to get into that 'look i can control pixels' race!
so i did some overlays.
but mostly i played with filters this time to get effects rather than photo overlay in the skys.
I used a combination of the glass filter and wind blasts in greyscale doing a subtle suftlight overlay on the unpainted rock areas and then i just highlighted what i saw as the hidden patterns there.... such is my namesake !
I think im happiest that people could still see my style in it, as much as many parts of the image are flawed!
conclusion... for me it was a good experiment.

Not to obvert from the subject at hand....but am I crazy or is there a hidden Star Wars theme going on here.....for some reason I see Yoda, R2, and C3P0 in the scribble in the backdrop.....
