Ok. I'm.... fairly new at this....my keyboards sticky for some odd reason and im feeling horrible. Just want to know how I should start at drawing if I have no drawing experience (actually I do , but they're pretty horrible )
I fiddled around with the tablet and photoshop for a while and no results. So I'm just wondering how I should start digital painting? Should I get a reference pic and try my best at it? Or should I try without reference? And should I make my own brushes, or use the ones with photoshop. Much thanks. |

Oops. I think I made a mistake in my post. I can draw pencil sketches fairly well. I meant no drawing experience on the computer. I took a class for it once, but didn't end up learning nething. Thanks in advance. |

Yeah, post some stuff you've drawn. That will give us an idea of where you're at. Maybe some of us can give you some pointers after we've seen what you can do and what you're having trouble with!
Peace

If somebody had taken the time to teach me how to draw and color... I would be amazing. Its practise mainly. But also knowing how to do various different styles and so on helps alot! Like.. ALOT!
Just trial and error + some inspiration + talent + the drive to get as far as you can.

I've written a lot about the more esoteric side of getting into this stuff on my homepage ... drop by and look under 'digital illustration' if you want

You can always check out the tutorial thats here on sijun.com, but otherwise start off with what you can do:
pencil sketches. draw a sketch and scan it in, or even just try experimenting in photoshop w/ your tablet by drawing a rough sketch of what you want. Afterwards, make a new layer and do a good black outline of that rough drawing using say a paintbrush. After that, try filling in key areas of your drawing w/ solid colors, and you have a huge selection of tools on how you want to shade\highlight\whatever to your drawing, through Dodge\Burn, smudging, etc... just experiment around w/ these tools.. dodge and burn are great, make sure you put them to the right option though (highlight\midtone\shadow etc...)
hope that helps...

...Scan one of your pencil drawings and fiddle away. I promise a good time. Enjoy and post your results!
