This is a real assignment, so I will include a little background info. It's for a playstation game cover.

I suggested other poses and environments/lighting, but they wanted Obi alone on an empty plain fighting nobody. Pretty boring... but that is sometime your job, make it interesting no matter what, with many restrictions, including time.

I include the photo reference as I think it shows how much you can add what you paint from a required photo. And this is pretty close. As you can see the head in the reference is 100 pixels high, and the lighting had to be invented. Not easy in the slightest. It was an interesting challenge, and I post it cause I know there are a lot of Star Wars fans here.

I am gone until early Oct. have fun

Wow, very cool, Spooge! I can see what you mean about adding your own touch and detail to a reference image.

Are you entirely happy with the hood you've added? It doesn't quite seem to mesh with the rest of the cloak.. (might just be me )

I think my favourite part is the shading/highlight of the right sleeve; really comes alive.

as a side note, am i the only who wonders how these guys are supposed to fight in such heavy, impeding clothing?? heh.. i guess that's the "fiction" part of "science fiction".

Holy Shit! That is awesome! Thanks for including the reference - it's great to see how you can enhance and improve upon it.

I guess I'll catch you in Oct then. I'll make sure to have a pretty lil' toy train illu waiting for you

Oh, and extralobe, I doubt the cloak's too encumbering compared to a suit of plate mail. Still, at least the armour has benefits.

Dude, that kicks ass! Verry cool!

You might want to make the foot in the foreground a little bigger though.

totally AWESOME spooge. The colors, shapes of the drapes and everything is just beautiful !! And to make a great piece like that out of such little reference, I wished I could do that.
It's really sad that you will be gone for so long, you really make this forum worthwhile.

Just one thing I reacted on on your picture. I feel stupid critiscizing one that is so much better than me, but I hope you don't mind me saying this His legs looks quite a bit to small. I tried to study the photo, and strangely they look small there too, hehe. But, I guess it must be how it's cropped or something. Because, were you placed the front foot, if you look veery closely on the picture, I think it actually is drapes and not his foot coming out. And, the reason, I think why the back foot look small on the photo, must be a forshortening, that the foot actually goes further behind.

Damn, I hope you don't hate me for saying this. The picture just is so great, but that small fix could just make his pose better.

damn real, real real nice

joachim, you might be right, i dunno, but i think its just because the robe he wears is so big and thick, it makes his shoulders look alot more broad then they really are, so that makin his legs look real small. ? it could be :P i dunno why i should be saying this because your so much better than me too haha

spooge, damn you! I was thinking about doing an Obi Wan picture, now I'll have to find another theme!

Great picture! I don't dare to criticize it but maybe Joachim is right.

Very nice! Love the colours as usual.
The legs looks a little small, but it's not a big deal.

Excellent! Great pic as usual spooge. The left hand needs some work but that's all I could find after staring at it for 15 minutes. You captured his face so well. You should make a wallpaper out of this, perhaps with some design stuff put on top of the cropped pic.

Have fun, wherever you are going. . . .
(probably on a holy quest for knowledge)

Just another unnecessary person who had to say INCREDIBLE!
I would be proud if I just managed to paint the background... keep it up - I cannot get enough of your style, Spooge.

Considering the reference provided. Ewan McGregor appears very stiff in the photo (do I dare say, it looks like a Boris pose very stiff and uninviting), but as an illustration, you are dead on, and I know it comes down to what you have to work with.

I have a comment to make, regarding the little hair clip on the back of his head. I think you made a mistake, by including it. I think that is really part of the background set (doorway, or whatever it may be). Has this been seen by the client??? I honestly feel that this is not part of the characters' hair. He has a small tuft of hair protruding from the center of his head, and a long braid that falls behind and below his ear, which you have indicated. But as far as the nubbin hair thingy, I would confirm if that should be there or not.

Spooge, I really like the modeling in the cape. His face seems a litte too soft to me, but that might be what they want.

THe feet though, wow they are very small, out of scale to the body. It might be the reference you have, but I would enlarge it, it being the front foot, by at least 10% or more, in the width, and in the length. I could be wrong, but the leg length looks a little pinched as well. I have been looking at the image in photoshop so I can see the whole thing in context, and that bottom section of Obi does look a tiny bit out of scale. Is this done to fit him entirely into the image?

Beyond that, I love the background. Damn if that isnt convincing for so few brushstrokesnice work

It might just be my eye but your head seems to be a little fat, or short.. seems like it should be a bit taller and thinner, just a tiny bit but enough for me to notice something. Then again you probably scaled the photo and have exact proportions and i just sound like an idiot, but it just seems a little off to me.

I really feel like an idiot. Spooge, really, I am an (early) fan of yours, so copy/paste all the comliments above. That's faster. i just felt like saying, though ^^;, that he seems somewhat crosseyed. Also, where is he looking at? It seems to me towards the saber, which is a pretty stupid way of fighting. I guess this is caused too by the conditions set, since I guess adding an opponent was not possible and it has too much space in front of him. (Now I am hearing all sorts of swearing from the rest of the forum towards me )

Very impressive work!! Although I agree, his legs look very small, and the positioning of them looks funny. Also his right hand looks a bit a weird.

I take it back Spooge, those feet belong on a figure half the size of his height. THey are really small, took me a bit to see through the dust on the ground, but they are very very small...sorry, I just see them as tiny feet...

The painting is more than fine.. the reference photo seems to midget Ewan McGregor a bit.

I _love_ the lightsaber... it's perfect.

Did you guys ever notice how something that's so powerful that it cuts through damn near anything generates no ambient heat or light in the movies? I'm sure I'm not the first to ask the dumb question =]

Hey. Thats a super super amazing picture. I have one criticizm. I hope it doesnt make you mad. The hood on his cloak doesnt seem to fit. It seems to be made of a different material than the rest of his cloak. It seems too loose and "wet" compared to the coarsness of his cloak. If I were to fix it, I would possibly use less lines. and make the folds a bit more angular.

Anyhow This is just what I see.

Looks great. and good luck
