I'm not sure what's happening in the face or head area. It seems cluttered and I'm not sure whats happening, could you explain?

after a minute of staring ive figured out whats going on in that face =]

his long nose is to the right of the face, and theres 2 colorful hairy things sticking out of them....beneath his nose is his mouth, which is grinning i think (that very big long black thing is the grin im guessing...or its a tatoo), and his blue eye is right to the left of the nose. then theres his little ear.

the painting is....ok......it could use alota work in terms of shapes n stuff

oh look! You've skillfully hidden the fact that you have used the doge/burn tool!

*cough*
*cough*

please excuse my biting sarcasm, you don't always have to shade from the edge of your lines inward towards the center you know, even though may be easier that way, with the doge burn tool and all ...

Hey woo its purple, you get points for that right away in my books!

now since this isnt a creature i specifically know of, i cant say the anatomy is wrong, but i think it would do you good to check up on some anatomy books, i am so bad with male anatomy they have so many muscles in their arms and stomac, so i always just end up drawing women...

i like the armour and the costume, i think you should have drawn the whole figure tho, would have put him somewhere on the page, his staff is cool. and i think you should draw him over and over.

its a cool concept, but all the faults i see lay in the original sketch, because the colouring and shadows seem ok to me.

pay more attention to the whole picture, not just the little details (like the beads)

anyways. i hope i didnt sound harsh or anything! cause im not an expert by far! but id love to see you redraw this picture cause i like the character!

I have some serious advice for ya. I think I remember reading that you were about 15 or so. Is that right? Anyway.

The anatomical problems in your figure are numerous. There's a less-than-realistic quality that really starts in your drawing. It's obvious where certain features are more or less characatured, such as the stomach muscles. Overall, you're not thinking enough in terms of three dimensional space.

Here is a link to some great online lessons by a guy named Glenn Vilppu. http://www2.awn.com/studentcorner/resourcelist.php3?ltype=All&sval=Vilppu%Drawing%Onli ne He deals with figures, but he starts with some fundamental drawing. No matter who you are, these fundamentals have to be constantly honed. So get ready to draw lots of circles, squares, and other basic shapes.

Good luck in your learning. Keep it up.

thanks all. its good that im not getting the "cool stuff man" and "excellent colours" and all that like i do from places like topaz. This way i can learn more..

ANYWAY, yeah im 15. Im not that good a drawer, so im gonna check out those links and have a look and do some lessons.

I like to shade from the lines inwards for SOME reason... I think its because you should do highlights on the points which are higher up, and darker shading for where it is down, so when the arms like, curve back round, i use darker shading there...

is that wrong then?

Thanks again, im gonna go look at that tutorial... Mat...

eh. . .If thats done by mouse, I would have to say the coloring is allright but the drawings horrible.

if that is doen by a tablet, I wold have to say, get crackin on the basics because their are way tooooo many proportion problems, composition problems and filter abuse.
