Hi fellow painters,
The magazine 'PCFormat' which I used to buy in my early gaming days , is giving away free software on their Magazine.
And included is Painter 5.5.. !
So you can have painter for just '15$', 27 gulden, of 9 pounds.
would this be that version 6 is now owned by corel, so metacreations can give away 5.5 for free ?, I dunno..
The only thing I want to know is : what could be the main difference between the two versions ?
grz -Chalker- ( PS I am not affiliated with PCFormat what so ever ! )

According to a copy of PCPro I was reading a while back, apparently Painter 5.5 was a rather "save your work every 5 mins" affair.
Apparently, Painter 6 was a bit more crash proof. Also, the interface was tidied up a bit... |

Ok, got some questions for you painter folks...
Any help from anybody will do me a world of good. I just got Painter 5.0 and I am lost. How do layers work in this program.? Are they the same as in photoshop or does it have its own way of using them? Any multiply layers or anything like that so I can preserve line art without killing it?
Also, how do you apply tools such as the liquid metal render tool. I cant seem to use them for much of anything. They arent painting the effects down the way I think they should, and I am not sure how to apply the effect if I can
Thank you anyone for your help if you can give any

Fred, this is something that confused me also.
I think that 'layers' in Painter are called 'objects' or something, and you need to have the objects toolbar up.
If you do a selection(e.g. lassoo) in Painter, in one of the menus there is an option to turn into an object which you can later turn back into a selection.
I'll check it out again and see if I can remember more about layers in Painter because I kinda came across it by chance. |

Hey Fred-
Yes, Painter is strange. I eventually stopped using it. But, as for layers, to paint on a layer in Painter you must use brushes that employ the transparent layer submethod. You can transform any brush into a transparent layer brush by changing its method to plug-in and submethod to transparent layer brushes in the brushes palette.
To add a transparent layer to an existing file, open the objects: floater list palette. To paint on the new layer, load the layer brush library, choose one of the layer brush varients, select the layer in the objects:floater list and paint.
Hope you understand this... good luck
-Alan
