Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie here, but it's nice to see a familiar digi face that I had the pleasure of meeting at this past Comic Con in San Diego. Phil! You met me with my friends Jon Foster (he had that oil of the crow perched on the robot shoulder, if you recall), Rick Berry and the crew. I was the blonde kid that slobbed all over those beautiful Myst production pieces of yours. Incredible work! Seth Fisher, our mutual friend, sent me a link to Craig's website (I'm sure I'll get around to the worshiping the Mullin's icon sooner or later ... man, I'm indebted to you more than you know after just a few visits to goodbrush), which in turn brought me here. I was bumping around the archives, enjoying posts from all these talented cats, and suddenly I ran into those pieces I had seen previously of yours. Too strange. So, long story short, this already feels like home and I thought I'd share something of my own. It's just a little sample, but it'll give you an idea of my work. Just for general information, I'm currently a Hawaii resident working as a teacher, but I plan on moving out to the west coast in the Spring. I'm fed up with being detached from the world and all my geeky artsy friends. BTW, Phil, why don't you e-mail me at [email protected], I'd like to chat some more.

Hopefully this image link thing will work like it says. Feel free to comment/crit/flog or whatever you deem necessary. It was all done in Painter for the most part except a few PS tweaks.

Take Care,
Brandon Kitkouski

Hey Brandon! Good to hear from you. Welcome to the forum. Nice pic!

I hear Seth's still in Japan, have you been e-mailing? How's he doing?

Anyway, sent you an e-mail. Glad to have you on board (no pun intended)

Thankyou all for your kind remarks. You're too kind. WAY TOO KIND! Feel free to turn a critical eye towards the piece. I'm always game for improving my work. Or do you guys like to lull a new member of the pack into a false sense of security to make sweeping the carpet out from underneath his ego all the more enjoyable, later? Haha, seriously, I'd appreciate some hard love from anybody that's game.

thanks again,
BK

*Rinaldo Steps tentatively up to the podium, cracks knuckles, a maniacal grin creeping slowly across his face *

I think it could use a few hard edges to give it some punch. To my mind it could also do with some more contrast in shape. A lot of closed spaces. Not much breathing room.
I have a problem with the tree texture. Everything seems to have the same surfacing. A lot of specular highlights. My sense of balance wants a few more bits of flat tone. There is a bit of texture variety but it all seems to be somehow similar. It may be to do with the way you have put a similar amount of detail on most of the different parts of the picture. Maybe play around with a bit of silhouette here and there. Particularly in the background. The bell could do with a bit of dark inside. At the moment it doesn't come out of the page enough.
Overall I think it could use a few spots of really dark tone to lift it out.
(all IMH and often miss-founded O)

Heh.......sorry about the extra harshness. I always seem to give out bad crits and thus make bad acquaintances
Remember it's what you wanted.
Last harsh crit I give......... honest.

Great pic btw (bar my small objections) the fairytale thing is workin quite nicely

I like the pic, I don't see much of this type of fantasy art around, makes a nice change.
The only problem I have is that there isn't much contrast, it feels a little flat. The darker areas have a grey look to them and don't look dark enough to make the the focal point stand out.
Apart from that keep up the good work.
