Hi all. Can someone please recommend a good book on photoshop? I mean not the ones that show tricks and effects.. I mean the one that tells u what each tool/effect/etc.. does.. like what are layers and channels and how to use them. I need it because I don't have the manuals ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/frown.gif) |

Adobe Photoshop 5.5 : Classroom in a Book
(comes with a CD)
It goes over everything
but it doesn't include creativity so you won't be able to make l33t0 text effects using the book. However, you will be able to do proffesional work.

Classroom in a book is pretty crap. All that's there is the manual in tutorial form.
Go with the WOW book if you have to buy something.
I don't understand whay you want the basic stuff. the online help is basicaly the manual but not printed. Getting something like the Wow book should give you a good idea of how to use the tools. I doubt you'll learn much from knowing what each tool does. Look at the help and you should find everything you need. |

Try Gary Bouton's Adobe Photoshop 5.5 Fundamentals With Image Ready 2
and Photoshop 5 & 5.5 Artistry Amaster class for Photographers, Artists and production Artist. But the second one is for intermediate and advanced users. http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/icons/icon7.gif
