I think you last design is more promising. Although it took a while to load, why is that? The graphic didn't look that big, you had it all cut up in slices for somereason.
The other designs where too confusing and the text was very hard to read.
When you present yourself as a graphic designer and things are hard to understand or visualize that's not a good think.
Don't rely so much on flashiness, think about how your text and image will work together and not against each other.
You're trying to communicate with text and image, so think of the message you're trying to say.
Do you want to say "HEY! LOOK AT MY SITE" or "HEY! CAN YOU GUESS WHAT THIS IS?"
I think you're very close to a final design here.
What is the main goal of the site?
Who is your target audience?
What kind of "first impression" do you want to give people when they see your site?
Just some questions to ask yourself when you are working on the site.
Maybe some more folks can make some comments on your ideas here.
Good luck.

Thanks samdragon! Well it is more of a site just for me and a little bit for others, so I am not too concerned about things like loading time and compatibility.
I will have to think a little bit about what the message I want to give the the audience is, however. That sure does make me think I like making designs for my site so more should be coming soon.
Thanks again! Any more comments?
