I dont know if i should be wasting a thread with this but this is my first tablet painting so here it goes.
After visiting Bob Byerleys gallery over the weekend and looking at his ultra realistic still life paintings i couldnt help but come home and try it myself. A pencil seemed like a perfect candidate. I tried to make it look as real as possible.

I'd really like to hear what you guys think.

Oh, come on... your first tablet drawing? Ok, I know another one. There are these two guys in the street and one says to the other

Sure, you cheated.

BTW, original dimensions?

That's a nice one, Plop. Very nice. Good job. I like how you rendered the pencil with just a few values.

INCREDIBLE!!!

The little zigzag/heart moniter thing you added on one of the lines of the paper ROCKS, it shows style and adds a balance of +/- space!

Jorge, original was 1400 pixels wide or so. I tried to do a few pictures of a fruit with a mouse before thats all.

Thx guys, appreciate it very much. Byerleys stuff is so amaizing, i am gonna have to scan and post it sometime, very inspirational. I'll be trying a lot more now.

Very nice... but one thing. The shadow. Two things look wrong. First off, it's longer than the pencil itself; it extends a little further than the tip, and a litttle further than the eraser. Shorten it a little on the tip side and it'll look better. Secondly, one trick I learned when doing trompe l'oiel in junior high (a fancy way of saying to create something so that looks is if the object is really there), shadows aren't grey. They're usually blue, indigo blue. Make that shadow just a little bit blue and it'll look that extra bit realistic.

That is cool Plop. The only problem I have is that the pencil looks like it twist a little towards the tip. Make me a mechanical one.. hehe.

I hadn't heard about this Bob guy before so I checked him out and he actually has two web sites for his name;
http://www.byerleyart.com/ http://www.bobbyerley.net/

The first one had better scans.

Really nice stuff anyway. They just scream NORMAN ROCKWELL at me although on close inspection he does have his own style. Very nice, will need to track down a book.

I really like the pencil too. Could you post the full size picture?

CyberArtist, I am going to try and do a lot more of those, will definetly try that shadow trick, thx.

Chapel, yeah, i only noticed it after sizing it down to a smaller one. Was hoping noone would see that

Sumaleth, Byerleys people arent as impresive as his still lifes, at least not the most of them. My favourite of his is this one. It looked like you could touch the peppers at the gallery. There was also another one where a girl was holding a garden hose spraying other kids with it, water looked like it was above the rest of the canvas, amaizing. I think his book is only sold whenever he has exsibitions. Its called 'An Invitation to Flight'.

I kept resizing pencil all the time because of details, the biggest it ever got was this.

Only distant lights (sun) are supposed to make shadows the same size as the casted object. Spotlights are supposed to make shadows bigger (the closer the bigger). Uh... I guess.

The peppers photograph is cool. Er.. could we see the painting now
