Hehe, thx a lot for liking our old stuff
To bad the link isn't too good, I guess to many tried to download it at the same time. So, thank you waylon for putting out another link.
Time to answer some questions:
AliasMoze: The ink and paint. Actually it was all animated and colored on the Amiga with mouse. The program was called Dpaint and in some ways it's similar to "Paint" that comes with microsoft windows, except for a better way to make colors and animate, since you could have frames and lighttable. But, everything was made on pixel level, which means that we sketched up the anims and backgr. and colores by placing pixels, the old fashion way. So, you won't believe how much hard work that is unless you've tried But, animation was really fun to do in this program.
How long ago...we did it around 1994-95, but we never showed it to anyone before the end of 95. So, then we were around 18 years old, which means that both me and micke are 24 years old today.
Francis: please try again with the new link that waylon put up, maybe it will work better.
Nex: This took us about 3-4 months to do. Actually we worked at Funcom at that time, so after work we went directly to work on this short movie...to almost 2 o'clock at night every day.
It was made in Dpaint, read my reply to AliasMoze....
How to make this today, I don't know. Backgrounds, coloring and compositing is easier on and better today on PC. Also easier to make things in higher rezolution. But, I have no clue of a good 2d animation program which is easy to animate with a tablet. So, I guess the best way now is to have a real lighttable and animate on paper and scan it in for coloring....don't know ?!?
The characters have the same format, but the backgrounds are shaded, but when you make so many frames, I don't think noone would have the energy and patient to clean up every frame with shadows and everything.
TheDude: Hehe, Actually we started on a ninja 3, in 3d (so, that's the reason why I have some character designs of a more hip ninja, on my webpage) but I don't think we will ever release it.
Binke & HumanClay: no, we didn't see ninjascroll before after ninja. But, have you ever played Samurai Showdown on NeoGeo? Ninjascoll has really been inspired by that game as well. SO, I can see the similarities.
Plop: yeah I know the gags and storytelling is not top notch. I guess the only funny part, is when he falls down. Maybe also how he runs like hell before he attacks, even though they just stand about 2 meters away from each other
Fayvren: I have the soundtrack as a wav file, but only with soundfx on. Still want it ?
Ozenzo & capnpyro: yeah sorry...the kid died I don't know, ninja wanted to rescue him, but got carried away
Golongoria: I've tried to explain some no, but if there's anything else you are wondering about, please ask !
eetu: I will never show you Ninja 1, it's so crap it's scary, believe me
I'm happy that you guys liked it, though it's very old.
burp!

That was pretty funny, I really enjoyed your movie. Man it would be nice to see what two of you could do now if that was an old one. ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

Wow... that is friggin cool. Maybe you should try to do something again. I could just imagine what you could do now. By the way Kim Jensen did a great job with the music! That was some pretty good stuff. ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/biggrin.gif) |

Kim is a he. hehe.. "I did not know that. That is wild and wacky stuff." Movie seems like a parody of Ninja Gaiden. |

Man, it's been a while since I saw this!
Sweet. Looks even better than I remember (like, what gives - where did the lens flares come from??)
Might try and d/l the high res version, but I'll probably just get the old demo for the retro appeal. I reckon I've still got an old p75 lying around that it might run on...
be impressed - I'm contemplating gutting my PC just to run an old demo from years back

Keep an eye on DigiCel Flipbook http://www.digicelinc.com/
Should be out the end of August. Inexpensive but looks to be good quality. Done by folks who worked on Animation Stand. |

Waylon, I think I tried this one too. All I am getting is about 3 or 4 seconds of viewing, then nothing for about a minute, then 2 seconds again. Sometimes this can all be a bit frustrating...
Thanks for reposting it again. I think I have to find out where to download it and play it from my own harddrive, damn it looks so cool too....arrgghhh |

(Ack, years of tech support experience kicking in.) Did you download it to your harddrive first, or just let your browser automatically play it for you? The file seems to be good, so unless the download somehow screwed up, or you have a funky mpeg viewer, it should work. If it's trying to stream it or something... Well, *I* get 800k/sec.
Is your monitor on? Is the comptuer plugged in?
Sorry if I sounded a bit pretentious in that last post. I was just being silly. |

thx again for more comments and compliments
Here's some brief answers:
JayBee: hehe, I had to put it all together in Afterfx, so that it would be possible to make an mpeg out of it...then I also added some lenz flare and stuff, for the fun of it
eetu: oh you have. Don't tell or show it to anyone, it should have been erased from this planet, hehe..
Fred f stone: Ah, too bad you can't download it. Not that it's any good or anything , but it's a bit funny and includes plenty of me and mickes old work. I don't know how to make it any smaller either, mpg packs rather well, but the whole movie is about 4 mins long. Please try a few times more... Here xoom is a slow server, but maybe from the US it's quicker ? If so, I can upload it on a xoom server.
Thanks again for all the nice feedback !
cheers

FFS: You need to right-click on the link and do "Save Target as" or "Save Link as". That should download it. |

Thanks for mentioning us and for the vote of confidence, but just to set the record straight we do not and never did have anything to do with Animation Stand.
Actually we used to be with AXA. In fact, we were AXA. The entire sales, mktg and programming team has left AXA and is now at DigiCel.
We started DigiCel because the old software was way too outdated and this was the only way we could get a fresh start to apply everything we'd learned through the years without the burden of the old software.
We will however provide an upgrade path for the thousands of AXA users who are now dependent on us for hope of a real upgrade.

hehehe...neat...he e-mailed me and asked me where i heard about digicel and i told him here..never thought he would actually post.
that's really cool to know that you (digicel) are actually willing to talk to the customers unlike some other software companies...post updates if you can!

Joachim : i'm downloading the anim at the moment.. but ehm.. you might want to consider doing that ninja3, and submit it to an animation competition on some computer party. I remember that at the gathering here in Norway, the 98 and 99 versions, the first prize animation competition was a silicon graphics machine.. and the animations that won consisted mostly of stolen 3d models (taken from star wars and babylon5 modellers guild, without credits ) ..
and besides that, it's fun to animate something.. especially if you have some decent character models with bones, and then animate with character studio
greets ...

Cheers to all who commented on the humble Ninja music!! The quality back then was a bit dodgy, but I guess it worked emphasizing the great visuals.
I'll be back in Ninja 3(D)...
