Since Fred started to that new trend "post your old stuff", I thought I could post a movie me and micke did together when we were around 18 years old.
I'm not very happy about this now, of course, but in a way I'm a bit proud of all the work we did put into this project at the time. It took about 3 months to do it.

It was before the days of afterfx and all, so we made the whole thing on Amiga. I guess some of you have seen it before, but here's an avi of the movie.

It's quite large, but I hope someone will bother to download it anyway And, as mentioned earlier, this should be enough old stuff to make me and micke emarassed for a long time, hehe. But, atleast it's worth a laugh.

here's some screenshots:

download it here:
NinjaMovie_BIG (23,0mb)
NinjaMovie_SMALL (7,84mb)

Have fun ! I'll duck and cover now

Aww...I can't see the movies, my windows media player says it is playing but the screen stays black...

...But if I look at the screenshots with my magnifier I must say you guys had way too much talent for 18 year old guys...

Lange_Pisang,

maybe you need to wait for it to be downloaded. It's pretty big. Because it goes directly into the player, but I can imagine it takes some time before you can see anything.

Joachim, that's pretty cool! How did you do the ink and paint? How long ago? Wait, how old are you guys anyway?

The character stuff is quite good, nothing at all to be ashamed of.

Yeah , that one is far better than some of
the stuff , that is currently running on
TV .
Ok,ok,the characters would never come into
a Disney or Dreamworks film but the clip
is very ok to me , thats as far a compliment
as you can ever get out of me .

The art at producing is not only the drawing
but also animation and other stuff . By the
way what program did you use to create the
clip ? The animations are well done and thats
the point for me .

Either download a 23mb MPG, oooorrr, get the 2mb demo and run it. But it wouldn't run on my Athlon650 with a Matrox G400 and SBLive

I guess I'll buy myself a 486 with VLB video card, 16mb ram, GUS and SB 2.0 to run old demos

Since you guys posted this, katode.org is being hammered by downloads ans is slow as hell. I'll download it later
People should try and download the NINJA2 demo and try to run it. If you have a semi-old very common video chipset and a non-pci sound card, it might run! or at least without sound.

Joachim, Mike
That was awsome! The ninja guy has a very unique design. When he slised up the big dude i was kinda expecting the pants on him to fall down and then he would run away in shame covering himself, but it was cool nonetheless. Especially when he fell after a jump.

Heh..I know this is gonna sound lame, but could one of you (Joachim or Micke) explain in a little more detail how you went about doing this, and, with the amazing technology of nowanddays *cough cough* is there an easier way to accomplish it? Thanx in adavance.
ps. it totally reminded me of Ninja Scroll when the dude slid apart...i love that movie..

ACK! NO! I finally finished downloading it (6 hours later....)

MPEG ARTIFACTS ARE EEEEVIL!

I can't believe how much they distorted the movie! If anyone can get the original demo working, IT'S WORTH IT! All the art is so crisp and clear!

Incidentally, is it just me, or are there a few lense flares in the mpg that weren't there in the original?

Man, thats really great!

Character animation is very neat and the backgrounds rock.

Music is cool too btw.

Some Q's:

1. How long did this take you guys?
2. What was it made in, what would you make something like this in today?
3. have the characters a different format or something? they appear to be more pixeled and. Like Sprites were on the good 'ol C64

I can still remember seeing that when it was first released and it still holds up really well after all these years!

It reminds me a littleof a Moviesetter animation I did on the Amiga back in 92 (in story, not quality). I wish there was a way to convert Moviesetter to mpeg, I'd be really curious to see that again.

Ahh, memories.

Sumaleth.

The characters are pixeled in deluxepaint.
Joachim made a hell of a job putting it together with Kim(our musician at work) in after-effects. When looking at the stuff i did now, i think they stink, except for a couple of backgrounds, but as Joachim said
we're kind of proud putting in the effort
it took making it.I'm not much of an animator either...

I posted the big version of the movie on one of my work machines. It should be a bit faster.
http://fear.incarnate.net/~vlad/misc/ninja_big.mpg

I hope neither of the original creators have a problem with this?

(And I hope our connection doesn't get totally swamped!)
